About Winery and Wines
Nestled in the rolling hills of Tuscany, overlooking the medieval towers of San Gimignano, Mormoraia Winery is a place where history, passion, and nature intertwine to create exceptional wines.
Long ago, this estate was not a winery but a monastery, where monks tended the land in quiet devotion. Their whispered prayers, carried by the wind, gave the place its name—Mormoraia, meaning "murmur" in Italian. When the monastery's doors finally closed, the land lay dormant for years, waiting for new hands to bring it back to life.
In the late 20th century, a family with a dream arrived, seeing beyond the abandoned buildings and overgrown vineyards. With patience and respect for tradition, they restored the estate, planting Vernaccia di San Gimignano and Chianti grapes, crafting wines that would honor the land’s rich heritage.
Today, Mormoraia Winery, organic since 2016, is a symbol of Tuscan excellence. Visitors walk among its vines, taste the fruits of its labor, and watch the sun set over golden fields.
Mormoraia Winery, set in the heart of Tuscany, is renowned for cultivating grapes that capture the essence of the region’s rich terroir. With rolling vineyards bathed in the Tuscan sun and cooled by gentle breezes, Mormoraia produces wines that reflect tradition, elegance, and a deep connection to the land.
One of Mormoraia’s most prized varieties is Vernaccia di San Gimignano, a white grape native to the region and one of Italy’s most historic wines. This grape produces crisp, mineral-driven wines with citrus notes, floral aromas, and a characteristic almond finish. As the first Italian white wine to receive DOCG status, Vernaccia di San Gimignano remains a symbol of Tuscan excellence.
The backbone of Tuscany’s famous reds, Sangiovese thrives in Mormoraia’s vineyards, contributing to their Chianti Colli Senesi wines. This grape is known for its vibrant acidity, cherry and plum flavors, and earthy undertones, making it the perfect expression of Tuscan winemaking.
To complement their traditional offerings, Mormoraia also cultivates Merlot, Cabernet and Syrah. These grapes add structure, depth, and notes of dark fruit and spice to the winery’s Super Tuscan-style wines, a modern interpretation of Tuscany’s winemaking prowess.
Mormoraia’s commitment to organic farming and sustainable viticulture ensures that each grape variety expresses the purity of the land. From the delicate elegance of Vernaccia to the bold richness of Sangiovese blends, every bottle tells the story of Tuscany—one sip at a time.
