About Winery and Wines

Podere Ema, was born from the desire to pass on years of passion, experience and love for Tuscan wine. A company that produces great wines using only native grapes, which enhance and strengthen the concept of "Pure Tuscan". Our grapes are the result of years of research to rediscover and enhance ancient native varieties with more than 300 years of history. A project of inestimable value that encompasses the need to reaffirm and enhance the peculiarities of our territory and tradition as a whole, the constant research and experimentation of new grape varieties, a conscious production of our wines and the constant love for products destined to those who can appreciate good wine. There are aromas that can only be tried to tell, flavors that can only be tried to describe, details that can only be imagined: those aromas, those flavors and those details that must absolutely be experienced in order to be fully understood. Without compromises!

Foglia Tonda is one of the many native Tuscan varieties that have been abandoned over time. We find traces of this vine throughout history, and exactly from the middle of 1800, when it was recognized among more than three thousand existing vine varieties. Foglia Tonda was then substituted by "easier" or more internationally famous varieties, until, in the 1970's, it was rediscovered and brought back to its real value. It is an autochthonous vine, with an all-Tuscan heart, cultivated in just twenty hectares scattered throughout the region. A strong plant with large pyramidal bunches, which finds its area of choice in Chianti, where it ripens later than its closest relative, Sangiovese. As it is easy to guess, the attribution of its name comes from the rounded shape of the leaf, almost without lobes. The rediscovery of this vine has brought back to the bottle, and to a lucky few, a wine of inestimable value, which perfectly blends ancient characteristics and modern wine making methods. Drinking it for the first time is an unforgettable experience. We suggest to keep some bottles for a long aging which will certainly give incredible satisfactions.
