About Winery and Wines

> Quinta do Beijo: A Legacy of Love and Wine in the Douro Valley

Nestled in the heart of Portugal’s stunning Douro Valley, Quinta do Beijo—which translates to Kiss Winery—is a family-owned estate dedicated to crafting exceptional wines. The name is an homage to the hummingbird, an elegant and tireless creature that “kisses” flowers to gather nectar. Inspired by this beautiful natural process, the Monteiro family explains their philosophy: Just as the hummingbird kisses the flowers to bring nectar home, we kiss the vines and bring their nectar into the bottle. This poetic vision encapsulates the deep respect, care, and devotion that the family pours into their winemaking, ensuring that every bottle carries the true essence of the Douro terroir.

> A Destination for Wine Lovers

Located in Celeirós do Douro, in the heart of the Cima Corgo subregion, Quinta do Beijo is part of the UNESCO-listed Alto Douro Wine Region, renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and world-class wines. Visitors to the estate are welcomed with warm hospitality, guided tours through historic wine cellars, and immersive tasting experiences that bring the family’s passion to life. During harvest season, guests can even take part in traditional grape stomping, making for an unforgettable, hands-on experience.

> A History Rooted in Tradition and Innovation

Quinta do Beijo has a history that spans over a century. The estate’s legacy dates back to the time when the family produced Port wine in the historic Armazéns do Calvário, their ancient wine cellars in the Douro. For generations, the family played a vital role in the region’s winemaking tradition, contributing to the local Port wine trade. However, it was in 2015 that the Monteiro family decided to rebrand and establish Quinta do Beijo as an independent label, marking a new era of passion and excellence in winemaking and also started to produce their brand of DOC Wines.

> A Commitment to Traditional and Sustainable Winemaking

Quinta do Beijo is deeply committed to preserving the heritage of the Douro Valley while integrating modern techniques to enhance quality. The estate’s vineyards are planted on steep, sun-drenched terraces with schist soils, which force the vines to grow deep roots and produce intensely flavored grapes. The winemaking process still honors age-old traditions, including the practice of “pisa a pé”, where grapes are foot-trodden in traditional stone basins called "Lagares". This technique dates back centuries and helps extract the best flavors and textures from the fruit.

At the same time, the winery embraces modern winemaking technology, using temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and high-quality oak barrels to ensure precision and consistency. Sustainable farming practices are also a cornerstone of Quinta do Beijo’s philosophy, with minimal chemical intervention and a focus on biodiversity to maintain a healthy vineyard ecosystem.

Quinta do Beijo’s vineyards flourish on terraced hillsides in the heart of the Douro Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage region celebrated for its breathtaking landscape.
With over a century of history behind it, this family-run estate spans roughly 15 hectares (around 37 acres) of vines and olive groves nurtured by generations of winemakers. Nestled in the wine village of Celeirós do Douro (Sabrosa), Quinta do Beijo carries forward a proud Douro legacy in every bottle. Even the name – meaning “Estate of the Kiss” – springs from a local legend of forbidden love, a fitting symbol for the passion and romance poured into each of their wines.

From vibrant table wines to fine Ports, Quinta do Beijo boasts a diverse portfolio that captures the essence of the Douro. The estate crafts high-quality red, white, and rosé Douro DOC wines, each meeting the region’s strict standards of quality and authenticity Its Port wines are equally celebrated – an award-winning lineup ranging from young blends to exceptionally aged treasures. Some highlights include:

DOC Reds: Bold, complex, and full of character, these reds showcase the richness of native grape varieties. Expect deep flavors of ripe berries, hints of spice, and a velvety texture that evolves beautifully with time. Whether young and vibrant or aged to perfection, these wines capture the powerful essence of the Douro.

DOC Whites: Fresh, aromatic, and elegantly structured, Quinta do Beijo’s white wines highlight the minerality and crispness that make the Douro’s whites so unique. Delicate floral notes, citrus bursts, and a refreshing finish make them the perfect choice for any occasion.

DOC Rosés: Light, lively, and irresistibly refreshing, the rosés are a celebration of fruit and freshness. Vibrant aromas of wild berries and a balanced, smooth palate make them the ideal companion for sun-soaked moments and relaxed gatherings.

Porto Wines: Quinta do Beijo is proud to produce exceptional aged Tawny and White Ports, reflecting the Douro’s finest winemaking traditions.

10-Year-Old Tawny Port – Smooth and complex, with rich layers of dried fruit, caramel, and toasted nuts. The perfect blend of elegance and depth, making every sip a warm embrace of time and craftsmanship.

50-Year-Old Tawny Port – A rare and extraordinary expression of patience and passion. Decades of careful aging result in a velvety, intensely aromatic Port with deep nutty, honeyed, and spice-laden notes. A true collector’s delight that combines the 5 generations of work of a single family in one bottle.

10-Year-Old White Port – A golden treasure with vibrant notes of dried apricot, citrus peel, and a hint of vanilla. Balanced and elegant, this unique aged White Port is an invitation to discover a new side of Douro’s winemaking excellence.

Quinta do Beijo prides itself on using authentic Douro grape varieties that give its wines their distinctive character. In the vineyards, you’ll find:

Indigenous Red Grapes – Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), and Touriga Franca – celebrated varieties that lend deep color, rich blackberry and plum notes, and firm structure to Quinta do Beijo’s reds. These grapes are the backbone of the estate’s robust and expressive wines, offering complexity, elegance, and age-worthiness.

Heritage White Grapes – Viosinho, Rabigato, and Gouveio – traditional white grapes of the Douro that bring bright acidity, floral aromas, and minerality to the estate’s elegant white wines. These varieties contribute to the fresh, aromatic, and well-balanced character that makes Douro whites so distinctive.

By cultivating these classic grapes, Quinta do Beijo stays true to the region’s winemaking heritage. Each grape is a piece of Douro’s soul, carefully blended to create wines that authentically express the terroir, from the sun-drenched slopes to the schist-rich soils that give these wines their unmistakable character.
