Quinta santa Marinha
About the Winery
Quinta de Santa Marinha, located at 245 meters of altitude and facing south/southwest, enjoys maximum sun exposure, ideal for producing wines of exceptional quality. Steeped in history, the estate is deeply connected to the winemaking traditions of the region. Its name originates from the Chapel of Santa Marinha, one of the local historical landmarks.
Originally composed of several fields and plots once known as “Quinta do Vale,” the property was traversed by an old public path, later replaced by the road that now divides the estate into two parts. The area surrounding the chapel dedicated to Santa Marinha eventually became known as Quinta de Santa Marinha, in honor of the saint who inspired its name.
Since its early days, the estate has been dedicated to both white and red wine production. Traditional varieties such as Loureiro, Trajadura, and Arinto once thrived here, along with Borraçal, Espadeiro, and Pical Pôlho. Today, Quinta de Santa Marinha combines its heritage with a modern, refined approach, focusing on high-quality wines crafted from Chardonnay and Merlot grapes.
Modernization over the years has been carried out with great respect for the estate’s essence and natural surroundings, creating a serene environment that perfectly blends viticulture, history, and the beauty of rural life.
About the Wines
Quinta de Santa Marinha offers an authentic and intimate experience in the heart of Alto Minho, where wine, nature, and tradition come together harmoniously. Production remains small-scale, allowing for meticulous attention to every detail and a deep connection to the land.
The estate produces Vinho Verde from the Loureiro grape, a variety typical of the region, as well as Chardonnay, Merlot, and a delicate Rosé made from Merlot. Each tasting is accompanied by small appetizers made from local and estate-grown ingredients, offering a true expression of the surrounding terroir.
Visitors can enjoy a pleasant and memorable stay surrounded by breathtaking landscapes. The hosts are passionate about sharing stories, the geography of the region, and the art of living well. Guests can receive personalized recommendations for regional experiences — from tasting local delicacies and enjoying traditional music to horse riding, vineyard walks, and discovering beekeeping.
Quinta de Santa Marinha is also known for its beekeeping, producing high-quality, 100% natural honey that captures the essence of local flowers and plants. A selection of regional products such as cheeses, cured meats, jams, and olive oil is also available for tasting and purchase — all carefully chosen to complement the estate’s wines and honey.
