Sassodisole

Winery in Montalcino, Val d'Orcia, Crete Senesi

About the Winery

Sassodisole Winery, a family-owned business, is nestled in a unique area on the northeastern side of Montalcino and within the Natural Artistic Park of Orcia’s Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Terzuoli family has cultivated their 8-hectare vineyard, entirely planted with native Sangiovese vines, at an elevation of 300 meters above sea level. Committed to the traditions of Montalcino, the family meticulously selects grapes by hand and ages the wine in Slavonian oak barrels. Their legacy in agriculture dates back to the 17th century, with the modern winery established in the 1970s by Bruno and Graziella Terzuoli. Their son Roberto, with his deep agricultural knowledge and experience in top Brunello di Montalcino wineries, has continued the family's passion, elevating the quality of Sassodisole wines.

About the Wines

Sassodisole Winery cultivates ten hectares of vineyards exclusively with Sangiovese Grosso, located in the North-East part of Montalcino within the UNESCO-protected Val d’Orcia. The vineyards, named Piaggione, Bosco, Borghetto, Frutti, Cantina, Pentagono, and Casa, are situated at altitudes between 280 and 320 meters above sea level, with a favorable South/South-West exposure. This prime location and meticulous vineyard management contribute to the production of their exceptional Brunello di Montalcino and other Sangiovese-based wines.

Sassodisole Winery offers a diverse range of wines that highlight the quality and tradition of their Sangiovese Grosso vineyards. Their portfolio includes:
Orcia Sangiovese D.O.C: A reflection of the Val d’Orcia’s unique terroir.
Rosso di Montalcino D.O.C: A fresh and vibrant expression of the Sangiovese grape.
Brunello di Montalcino D.O.C.G: Their flagship wine showcases depth and elegance.
Brunello di Montalcino D.O.C.G Riserva: A more aged, complex version of their Brunello.
BRUNO – Brunello di Montalcino D.O.C.G. 2015: A special vintage with notable acclaim.
Spumante Rosato Brut: A sparkling rosé that adds a fresh, celebratory note to their lineup.

What a blast!!
We were lucky to have good weather, the place was very beautiful and welcoming upon arrival.
The guy who took us on the tour of the winery was very evocative and interesting, especially with the story he told.
Afterwards, we went into a tasting room, where we were able to taste 3 wines with the addition of cured meats and cheeses to contrast the aromas of the wine.
It was a beautiful experience, I recommend it to everyone.

Excellent wines and welcoming atmosphere
Wonderfully welcomed in the beautiful location, the visit to the winery was very interesting and technical, although informal and friendly.
Then the tasting was surprising for the excellent quality of the wines.
They also had us taste a couple more wines than expected, including the truly fantastic Riserva.
Bought wine and oil, I recommend both the visit/tasting at the winery and the Sassodisole products to everyone.

Great experience
Thanks for a wonderful wine tasting and tour. The location I fantastic and easy to find ( just 20 mins form the town of Montalcino) . The tour was very informative and interesting and the wine tasting experience was great. We tried 4 wines with some bread and olive oil, just right! the wines were very good and we bought bottles of the Rose.
