About Winery and Wines
Fortemasso, located in the municipality of Monforte d'Alba, is a distinguished winery situated in the heart of the Langhe region, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its rolling hills and exceptional vineyards. The estate spans 5 hectares dedicated to Nebbiolo for the production of Barolo DOCG, with an additional 10 hectares for cultivating Dolcetto d'Alba DOC, Langhe Nebbiolo DOC, and Barbera d'Alba Superiore DOC.
Fortemasso operates with a clear production philosophy: a strong emphasis on meticulous vineyard care combined with minimal intervention in the cellar, allowing the true character of each grape variety to shine. The estate's vineyards are located in the prestigious Castelletto area, with vines planted on steep hillsides at elevations ranging from 360 to 450 meters above sea level. The diverse soil composition, including Diano Sandstone and marl, along with the cool, breezy climate, contributes to a slow and steady ripening process, resulting in grapes of the highest quality.
The winery itself is housed in a renovated building that preserves its traditional exterior while offering a modern and elegant interior. The winemaking and aging processes take place in an underground, eco-sustainable cellar, designed to maintain the natural landscape above and equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to ensure the production of exceptional wines.
Fortemasso, under the ownership of the Gussalli Beretta family since 2013, represents a commitment to producing wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Langhe region. The combination of expert craftsmanship, ideal growing conditions, and a dedication to preserving the land has established Fortemasso as a notable producer of Barolo and other celebrated wines in one of Italy's most iconic wine regions.
Fortemasso produces 5 distinguished labels: Barolo DOCG Castelletto, Barolo Riserva DOCG Castelletto, Barolo DOCG del Comune di Monforte d' Alba, Dolcetto d'Alba DOC, Langhe Nebbiolo DOC, and Barbera d'Alba Superiore DOC. The FORTEMASSO Barolo is a contemporary expression of the region’s winemaking heritage. Through careful and delicate vinification techniques—often described as a "soft hand" in the cellar—the wine captures and preserves the intrinsic qualities of the Castelletto cru. These characteristics, shaped by the vineyard's sandy soil, fresh climate, and southeast exposure, are elegantly and subtly conveyed in every bottle, allowing the true essence of the grapes to shine through.
