About Winery and Wines
In the heart of Tuscany, nestled between the provinces of Arezzo and Siena, Tenuta Il Sosso is a family-owned estate where tradition and passion for winemaking have been passed down for three generations. Located in Lucignano, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, the estate is surrounded by rolling hills, vineyards, olive groves, and woodlands. At its heart stands the Casale Leopoldino, a historic jewel dating back to the late 18th century, reflecting the region’s rich heritage from the time of Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo.
Since 1965, when the Ravaglioli family acquired the estate, Il Sosso has been dedicated to producing wines that honor the uniqueness of the land. Over the years, the winery has expanded, culminating in 2004 with the construction of a modern cellar and a renewed commitment to quality winemaking. The estate spans 45 hectares, with 27 hectares of vineyards, where the family cultivates native and international grape varieties with sustainable and environmentally conscious practices.
Visitors to Il Sosso are invited to discover the authentic flavors of Tuscany through immersive wine experiences, exploring a perfect balance of innovation and tradition in a setting that embodies the timeless beauty of the Tuscan landscape.
At Tenuta Il Sosso, winemaking is a careful blend of tradition and innovation, with a deep respect for the land. The estate’s vineyards, situated on medium-textured soils with sandy, tuffaceous, and clay layers, benefit from an ideal microclimate. The significant temperature variation between day and night during the growing season enhances the aromatic complexity and color intensity of the wines.
The estate is dedicated to Tuscany’s native grape varieties, with Sangiovese as the flagship, covering 70% of the vineyards. Other indigenous varieties include Pugnitello, Colorino, and Canaiolo, which add depth and character to the blends. Alongside these, international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot enrich the reds, while Chardonnay and Viognier bring freshness and elegance to the whites.
Every bottle reflects the terroir and soul of Tuscany, from bold Sangiovese-driven reds to refined white wines that capture the estate’s unique expression. Whether savoring a structured Super Tuscan blend or a vibrant Tuscan white, each sip tells the story of a family’s dedication to excellence and authenticity in winemaking.
