About Winery and Wines

The family-run company is active in the heroic cultivation of mountain vineyards, in excellent winemaking and in the cultivation of centuries-old olive trees, also offering experiences of rural and local tourism, catering and accommodation in the ancient village of Plataci. Among our main vineyards there are Sangiovese di Calabria, Malvasia, Zibibbo, Greco Bianco and Aglianico. Prospero founded the company in 1996, inheriting the passion for viticulture from his father Pietro, known as “Zì Vit” (Uncle Vine) for his experience, mastery and skill in the art of pruning and grafting since the early 1900s. Today run by the children, Lena, Pietro and Rossella, the company is a flowered balcony overlooking the extraordinary biodiversity scenery of the Pollino National Park and the gulf of ancient Sibari. It's possible with us a guided bicycle ride in the Eroici Stamati vineyards with assisted pedal mountain bike or e-bike, departing from the charming village arbëreshe of Plataci where the winery takes place, panoramic descent through the woods of Eastern Pollino and a view of the majestic gulf of ancient Sibari. Between the boundless yellow of the June brooms and the extraordinary shades of reds of the autumn foliage, it will be possible to carry out a tasting of ViniEroici Stamati in the cellar, guided by our Sommelier or book breakfast in the vineyard with farm-to-table products, representative of the gastronomic wonders of the area.

The heroic Stamati vineyards grow lush, lying on the soft slopes of the hills of Eastern Pollino, a natural area with the highest biodiversity in Europe, overlooking a natural terrace overlooking the gulf of ancient Sibari, caressed by the sinuous wind that rises from the sea Ionian. Located 700 meters above sea level, the vineyards enjoy a rare microclimate, and the beneficial influence of strong temperature variations between day and night which contribute to the elegance of the wine. The uniqueness of the product is given by the Stamati vines being all ungrafted.  Prospero, "A wine that is certainly clear and brilliant, a dark ruby foreshadowing of not very pandering tones. The nose is sensational, surprising, it evokes ancient mountain men, it tells you that it is not the usual "pleasant" wine that blinds you with honeyed notes of red fruits, There is no fruit here, don't look for it, here there is substance, lots of stuff, and the fruit is just an echo that closes the circle from afar. Definitely broad and intense, but at the same time incredibly elegant, because with calm and calm tones he puts you at ease and begins to parade on the catwalk, immediately opening with dark notes of undergrowth, very elegant evolving tertiaries, leather, green tobacco, pipe, damp pine bark, bitter cocoa, foliage, red earth, husk of walnuts, smells of black mineral, graphite, liquorice root, then again pungent notes of pine yield, menthol, aromatic herbs, muntok black pepper (a very aromatic pepper), to make your head spin, and the moment you start to feel the tired nose comes from afar a cavalry of freshness that only the mountains can give you, made of citrus fruits, ginger, mace and salt, star anise and an immense basket of freshly picked red flowers. On the palate it enchants first with a soft embrace, lasting a few seconds, to immediately highlight a savory tension that raises the hairs on the arm, followed by a tasty, almost thirst-quenching freshness. The guide of the sip is kindly given to a tannin of rare craftsmanship, mature, self-confident, perfect, a key element of the whole drink, a trained lion who knows how to put on a show only if necessary. With a nose like that and with perfect retro-olfactory coherence, think of the vortex of flavors and smells on the way back up... the immense. The hard part is important but at the same time perfectly balanced, here there is no room for red fruits and roundness, this is a wine that seeks demanding palates, fresh, savory, blindly it could recall a great Nebbiolo. Very long epilogue with spicy and balsamic echoes. A frightening ability to "clean and degrease". It really seems like a wine from Northern Europe, those wines that with 13 degrees of alcohol last for years over time, and this simply because they are wines that have a body as big as a mountain, just like the mountain where this Sangiovese has lived for decades."
