Talha de Frades was born from Sr. Alexandre Frade’s passion for Talha Wine, an ancestral winemaking method that has endured for centuries without losing its authenticity and unique character. More than just a technique, Talha Wine is a cultural heritage that connects us to the roots and traditions of Alentejo, preserving the essence of a practice that remains alive through time. Here, we believe that this way of making wine unites the past, present, and future, safeguarding tradition while exploring more creative oenological approaches.

Visitors to Talha de Frades embark on a unique journey where tradition and innovation come together. A visit to our winery reveals a winemaking method inherited from the Romans, in which grapes ferment naturally inside clay amphorae (Talha), without the use of invasive technologies. At the same time, we demonstrate how innovation can enrich this ancient practice, allowing Talha Wine to go beyond its youthful expression and reveal its extraordinary aging potential. Among our amphorae, some hold centuries of history, including our oldest signed Talha, dated 1856, a true testament to the longevity of this tradition and the identity of Alentejo.
