We recently visited this charming and delightfully staffed vineyard on a bus trip from Florence. The wines themselves were quite good and reasonably priced but the White Boar sausage was out of this world. The tasting staff provided a genuinely friendly experience which forces you to smile happily. A dramatic contrast to the Snobbery so prevalent in Napa

About Winery and Wines

At RISECCOLI, we take a very personal and artisanal approach to winemaking and have always enjoyed sharing our passion with those who take an interest in our wines. Sangiovese provides the backbone to our Chianti Classico and also to our range of Tuscan red Indicazione Geografica Tipica (IGT) wines. We also use non-indigenous varieties in specific circumstances, always allowing each vintage to reveal the full potential of the unique RISECCOLI terroir. The French influence in our family (with the origins of the Faure family being in Bordeaux) allows us to use French grape varieties with confidence. This results in the wonderful blends of our IGT cuvées, for the sheer enjoyment of many aficionados around the world. We seek to make wines that are approachable for early drinking. Yet, our Chianti Classico and IGT cuvées can also be cellared for enjoyment over the years to come. All of our wines aim to show intensity of fruit as well as precision, balance, elegance and finesse. We specifically limit the proportion of wine that comes into direct contact with the oak in our cellars in order to enhance the purity and fruit structure. Practicing viticulture in the most eco-friendly manner, our procedures are inspired from principles of viticulture raisonnée and show the utmost respect to the soil, the vines and the beautiful Tuscan countryside around us. We believe that our winemaking approach through integrity and innovation is setting standards for wineries which share our values.

The RISECCOLI vineyards are spread across two distinctive areas; the Historical Vineyards, which consist of eight parcels around the original estate cellars (3.5 kilometers east of the village of Greve in Chianti), and the Santo Stefano Vineyards, which are 5 kilometers north of Greve. The latter were acquired in the year 2000 and consist of three beautiful parcels. The Historical Vineyards cover a total area of ten hectares. These are south to southeast facing and are located between Greve and the top of the Monte San Michele. As the highest point in the Chianti Classico hills, the Monte San Michele provides a natural shelter to our vineyards from climatic hazards, such as cloudbursts and hailstorms. These factors, combined with the altitude at which the vineyards are planted (between 350 and 450 meters above sea level), create ideal climatic conditions for the growing and maturation of our grapes. The average age of the Sangiovese vines stock is 15 years old. The soil composition at the Historical Vineyards consists essentially of a mix of galestro, schistous clay and sandstone. Steep slopes and high permeability provide excellent natural drainage. The fruit coming from these vineyards tend to be naturally concentrated and perfumed.
