Tenuta Torre Raone

Winery in Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Aprutine Hills

About the Winery

Torre Raone company is located in the town Hall of Loreto Aprutino, an area with a wine-growing vocation. It is located on the gentle hill side, 350 m above sea level, halfway between the Adriatic Sea and the Gran Sasso National Park which favor a perfect microclimate for the cultivation of vines.

Tenuta Torre Raone was founded in 1997 when the farmer Luciano, originally from Tollo, decided to buy a 35-hectare farm and immediately managed it with a cultivation of vines and olive trees under organic farming, certified by the ICEA society . The great passion for wine is closely linked to the desire to enhance native vines, thus producing elegant wines with character.

Since 2014, Dante, the company's winemaker, has followed all stages of production, from the obsessive care of the vines in the vineyard, then continuing with careful production in the cellar organized with modern winemaking equipment. The objective is to preserve and enhance the raw material, thus producing wines of the highest quality.

About the Wines

The company's production philosophy is to respect and enhance the territory and its products as much as possible. This is reflected not only in the care of the vines in the field, but above all in the cellar where we choose to use steel and less barriques and exploit the indigenous yeasts present, so as to preserve the natural characteristics of the grapes.

The Torre Raone company produces 9 labels, an expression of the flavors of the land and its fruits: a Trebbiano with a marked minerality and exotic freshness, a Pecorino with a strong, decisive and shrewd flavour, which enhances the authenticity of the extreme flavors of Abruzzo cuisine and the various nuances of Montepulciano. From the Cerasuolo, harmonious, floral, elegant and delicate, to the Montepulciano: the classic, fresh, fruity, elegant and refined which appears mature despite its youth, to the Riserva, a modern, fresh and mature Montepulciano, fascinating, but the son of an ancient marquee planted in 1974, ending with the San Zopito, a Montepulciano d'Abruzzo "Terre dei Vestini", unique, inimitable and unforgettable which takes its name from the Patron Saint of Loreto Aprutino.

Awe Inspiring Tour and Tasting
There were 4 of us for our tour and wine tasting. Our guide and resident Sommelier, Carla, was extremely well versed in the growing and processing of grapes to make the excellent wines we tried. She was also a wealth of local historic information and tied it seamlessly into the wines. We were totally mesmerized by the way Carla presented all the information that we absorbed like sponges. The food she served us complimented the wines perfectly. By the time we were finished, we were full, happy and thankful for our designated driver. Several of us made purchases to take home to (maybe) share with our friends and family. The only regret is their wine isn't yet widely available for purchase. Having been to dozens of wine tours and tastings, this one occupies the number one slot on my list. It was the best!
During the booking process, there should be a question about special dietary requirements. We had one person with us that required gluten free. Luckily, Carla was able to accommodate us during our visit.

Cara was a fabulous host!
It was an excellent wine tour. Cara was very knowledgeable about the local history, the history of the vineyards and had great stories to share. She was extremely attentive. The wine was exceptional as well as the food parings and hospitality. Her English was excellent and we left satisfied with the wine, food and knowledge we gained. I cant wait to go back in the summer to taste the grapes on the vines.
The only suggestion is to display some of the artifacts that were located on the property.

Informative and enjoyable
Although our vineyard got cut short by rain, the your was very informative. We tasted five wines, paired with local delicacies. Each wine got progressively better!
Great tour guide, very knowledgeable.
The Montepulcianos were my favorites. We tried three different labels.

Wonderful experience
A very evocative experience.
The visit to the vineyard and the cellar was very interesting, also assisted by an archaeologist who linked the explanation of wine production to the history of the place.
The tasting, besides being excellent, made us further appreciate the work done every day with passion.

Priceless view
My partner and I were at Torre Raone for our anniversary, never was a choice more perfect.
We had the chance to fully understand and appreciate the reality of a relatively small company that treats every product the earth offers with love and passion. A young company very ready to experiment and welcome new things without losing sight of the primary objective, offering a high-quality organic product. Delicious wines, a breathtaking view with the company's symbolic tower embraced by the Gran Sasso behind it and the sea in front.
Added value: the kindness of Carla, able to offer a familiar yet still professional service. Highly recommended!

An unforgettable journey
It’s an unforgettable journey through history, tradition and of course, a professional lecture on wine and winery industry, still suited to novices like me. The owners are friendly and welcoming and time literally flies. You will definitely feel enriched afterwards. Absolutely recommended.
