About Winery and Wines
Terre De La Custodia was born in the hills of Gualdo Cattaneo, just a few kilometres from the historic Montefalco, from the love of a family that for centuries has tended the vines and harvested the fruits of the Umbrian territory, transforming them with wisdom and passion into good wine. A story of tradition, born of a land capable of expressing its simple nature from the very first sip.
Umbria is a land of strong and decisive flavours. Its incomparable aromas stem from a tradition that originates in the Middle Ages. It was the Franciscan monks who planted the first Sagrantino and Grechetto vines. Inside the cloisters of their convents, the monks handed down the secrets of the art of wine-making over the years. The wines were kept in a rigorous manner, to preserve their quality and genuineness as much as possible. Confidentiality was such that the vineyards were nicknamed "La Custodia". Even today, these secrets are kept to create wines with a precious and ancient taste.
