About Winery and Wines
It all began on the family’s ancestral land in the Romangia region, in the northwest of Sardinia, within the Sorso area (Province of Sassari). It was here, in the localities of Badde Pira and Liscia, that the first vineyards and vegetable crops were established in 1955.
Over two generations, these roots gave life to what would officially become Azienda Agricola Vitivinicola Vacca Augusto Michele in 1985. Today, that legacy continues under the name Terre di Baquara, a brand that represents the evolution of tradition and a deep connection to the land.
From the very beginning, Terre di Baquara has been defined by an unwavering pursuit of quality. A commitment to sustainable, seasonal cultivation has made its products not only authentic but also highly appreciated in the market. Each bottle and harvest reflects the essence of Terre di Baquara, where passion, heritage, and innovation meet.
Terre di Baquara’s production reflects the unique characteristics of the Romangino territory, with particular emphasis on the Badde Pira cru. This area, predominantly hilly and rich in limestone and marine fossils, benefits from constant exposure to the mistral winds blowing in from the Gulf of Asinara. These conditions create a distinctive microclimate that enhances the aromatic profile of the grapes in a rare and remarkable way.
The goal is to allow the grapes to fully express their potential, resulting in wines with strong identity and a clear vine-to-wine correspondence—wines that remain recognizable and appreciated vintage after vintage.
Over time, traditional bush-trained (alberello) vineyards have been replaced with refined espalier-trained systems. These vineyards are planted on American rootstocks and grafted with ancient clones such as Ritagliaddu Nieddu (a historic variety of Cannonau di Sorso), Vermentino, Cagnulari, Moscato, and Girò. Guyot pruning is used to maintain vine longevity and ensure the highest quality in both grapes and future wines.
