About Winery and Wines

In 1996, the Cecchi family purchased Val delle Rose winery in the small town of Poggio la Mozza, which is in the heart of the production area of Morellino di Scansano. At the time of purchase, Val delle Rose had its vineyards roughly planted on 25 hectares. The Cecchi intervention was similar to a small farming revolution in that the agricultural techniques used up until then did not guarantee the consistent quality needed for a winery to survive. With soil studies in hand, and the known practices carried out in many other places - Maremma revealed an enormous potential in its terroir; so much so the winery decided to enlarge the planting area to its current 100 hectares, where the star varietal is Sangiovese (minus the Vermentino part). The vines are densely planted and vary between 5000 to 5500 plants per hectare. This involves a “logical” density - allowing the plant a slow flowering phase that is rich in air circulation. These aspects are fundamental in obtaining the right balance necessary for the wine’s quality. After the proper and skillful arrangement in the agricultural sector of the winery, construction on a new cellar/winery began. Today it is equipped with the most state-of-the-art technology, which allows the winery superior processing of harvested grapes.
