About Winery and Wines

The history of Villa Schinosa is based on ancient winemaking traditions handed down from generation to generation. With tenacity and great determination, the last of the heirs, Corrado Capece Minutolo, is continuing his journey towards the achievement of new goals, making tradition and innovation coexist with the strength and foresight to believe in his work. Villa Schinosa spreads on about 200 hectares at the gates of Trani: it is a charming structure that visitors can see at the end of an avenue of oaks. Besides the ancient winery built in 1884 and partly excavated in Trani's stone, vineyards and the winery have been renewed with technologically advanced enological equipment. Around the body of the winery with the ancient Masseria, extraordinary in the period of the flowering of bougainvillea, where the owners reside, besides vineyards, there are modern intensive olive groves which flank secular olive trees in order to obtain high quality extra virgin olive oils. The production is completed by cherry orchards and almond trees with organic certification. Supported by his father Ferdinando's experience, Corrado takes care of every productive and commercial aspect of the farm, while the commercial relations of Villa Schinosa wines abroad are followed by his mother Maria.

Father Ferdinando's choice was to focus on the potential of autochthonous vines and southern vines with a strong identity, without forgetting some important international vines. The espalier vineyards, cultivated with guyot or spurred cordon, have found at Villa Schinosa the perfect land and microclimate to express their characteristics at their best. Valuing autochthonous vines and their peculiarities has been a winning tool in national and international markets and Villa Schinosa wines have created a trusting bond with consumers. In Trani, the highest expression of the autochthonous vine is represented by Moscato di Trani, flanked with extraordinary success by Fiano, Falanghina" by Greco and by the black grapes of the autochthonous vines Uva di Troia, Aglianico and Primitivo. Fiano is certainly capable of giving wines of complexity and structure which allow a deep and lasting evolution. Falanghina, this surprising and extraordinary grape which marks a new record of quality among the White Wines of the Levant, at Villa Schinosa is vinified for two different types of wines: Still White Wine and Sparkling White Wine. Aglianico is a vine of very ancient cultivation in Southern Italy and in Apulia it was present in the old vineyards. The prestigious grape has a relevant place in the high quality Apulian viticulture and therefore it has been selected for Villa Schinosa's vineyard.
