Weingut Lange - Schloss Saaleck
(Winery in Franconia)
About Winery and Wines
Ulrike and Thomas Lange have achieved something extraordinary - transforming a long-cherished dream into vibrant reality. In 2011, they seized the opportunity to acquire Schloss Saaleck Winery, not just purchasing a piece of history, but breathing life into their vision. Ulrike, born into a winemaking family, couldn’t inherit her parents’ vineyard, yet her heart never stopped beating for viticulture. Together with her husband Thomas, who courageously left his secure job to support her, they took a bold leap and successfully applied to purchase the economically struggling municipal winery in Hammelburg.
From the beginning, it was clear: this winery would be different. Ulrike and Thomas completely converted the estate to organic winemaking, now cultivating over 19 hectares according to the strict guidelines of NATURLAND. Their philosophy is characterized by deep respect for nature. Chemical-synthetic sprays are strictly forbidden; instead, they promote biodiversity in the vineyard. Thomas, who completed winegrower training at the age of 40, brings his entire passion to develop the winery into a showcase for sustainable wine production alongside Ulrike.
Lange Winery - Schloss Saaleck has made a name for itself. It ranks among the top organic wineries in Franconia and is renowned for its dry, modern wines. Quality trumps quantity; every drop tells a story of dedication and care. The Langes produce characterful organic wines that are also vegan, and their creations have been awarded multiple times, including at the international organic wine prize and the Franconian wine awards.
Ulrike and Thomas are not just winemakers by passion; they are ambassadors of their region. Through wine hikes, wine tastings, and other events, they share their enthusiasm for winemaking with others. Their wine shop in the historic town hall of Hammelburg invites visitors to taste their exquisite wines in a cozy atmosphere.
With tireless commitment and a clear vision, Ulrike and Thomas Lange have transformed Schloss Saaleck Winery into a beacon of organic winemaking. Their love for detail makes their wines a special experience for connoisseurs - a dream come true that is palpable in every glass.
Weingut Lange produces a refined selection of 100% handpicked organic wines, with a focus on both traditional Franconian grape varieties and future-oriented cultivars. The winery is known for its dedication to quality, sustainable viticulture, and regional identity, highlighted by the use of the traditional Franconian Bocksbeutel bottle.
The range includes white, rosé, and red wines, all organically certified and carefully crafted to reflect the character of their terroir. Among the most notable is their dry Silvaner, bottled in the iconic 0.75L Bocksbeutel. This wine offers a fruity, mineral profile with delicate citrus notes and fresh fruit aromas. Balanced and harmonious, the Silvaner has no residual sweetness, making it an ideal pairing for steamed fish, chicken, or vegetable dishes. Recognized internationally, this wine has earned several awards over the past three years, including a Silver Medal at the International Organic Wine Award.
