About the Winery
Great wines are made with passion, dedication, and experience.
Since 1831 we are carrefully craftig our wines around Bacharach on the steep slopes of the famous Mittelrhein valley.
Today, Cecilia Jost is the seventh generation to run the winery. We are currently cultivating 15 hectares on both sides of the Rhine: on the right bank of the Rhine in the Rheingau and on the left bank of the Rhine in the Middle Rhine Valley around Bacharach.
Viticulture shapes the Middle Rhine Valley. Surrounded by castles and medieval towns, steep vineyards and slate cliffs define the romantic landscape. In the special microclimate, the vines that claw their way into the rocks here produce fine, highly aromatic Rieslings and mineral Pinot Noirs.
About the Wines
SLATE, Rhine and Riesling – this triad characterizes the interplay of fruit and minerality in our wines. Loamy clay deposits from seas in the Devonian age about 400 million years ago fossilised into slate. All our vineyards in the Middle Rhine Valley are characterised by slate. Depending on the grape variety, vintage and the individual vineyards, the wines are more distinctly or more subtly influenced by the soil. The slate tone resonates most clearly in the fine Rieslings and full bodied Spätburgunder.
Our winery also produces great fruity and sweet qualities like the so famous german styles of Kabinett, Spätlese and Auslese with its almost never ending finish.

Great wine!
Fantastic experience!
Personalized wine tasting with a knowledgeable guide
At 2 p.m., we were met by Linda, our wine guide. She asked us what kind of wine we liked and based the tasting on that. We were served the wines in pairs to make it easier to compare them, and she told us about the wines, how the grapes are grown, and why the grapes produce such distinct flavors.
After nearly an hour, the tasting concluded, and she asked us what we were looking for during our visit to the Rhine Valley. She then gave us a couple of excellent recommendations for places to visit—and explained why. We have now left the Rhine Valley and would like to thank Linda for a wonderful wine-tasting experience and, not least, for the great recommendations regarding castles we should visit. Everything was top-notch!

Don’t rush, Slow down, really savour the teachings of the staff. The purchases of bottles here was less expensive that the same type at the grocery store, so buy at the Weingut.
