Weltevrede is a family owned and operated wine farm situated between the Langeberg mountains and Breede River in the Robertson Wine Valley, South Africa. For over a hundred years the Jonker family has owned and operated the Weltevrede wine estate, faithfully teaching and guiding each new generation of winemaker. Encouraging and living out an ethos of innovation and impact. From the oldest vineyard (dating to 1926) to the newest, each is planted and cared for with precision, passion, and skill. Having lived in this valley for generations, the Jonker family have come to know the soil, the climate and the finer qualities of the valley intimately, discovering its potential and prize. Through this Phillip, the current owner and winemaker, has unearthed that the calcium rich soil produces some of the worlds finest Chardonnay, comparable to that of the Chablis region, in France. With this revelation, Phillip decided to direct Weltevrede to become a Chardonnay only estate as of 2021, exclusively producing premium Chardonnay and Cap Classique. Championing the soil and its potential, Phillip has specialized in producing vibrant Chardonnay’s, nurturing each vineyard to showcase the soil from which it is grown. Expertly reflecting the rich minerality of the soil, the fresh sea breeze from the north and the depth of the winemaker. He has also specialized in making Cap Classique, squeezed from the same, vibrant chardonnay grapes. These Cap Classique’s are elegant, vibrant and complex bringing beauty and celebration to any moment. Weltevrede now offers two unique underground tours; “Captivated by Chardonnay and “Captivated by Cap Classique”. During Captivated by Chardonnay our expert staff take you on a guided tour of the history, terroir and passion of Chardonnay, facilitating a tasting of each of our three premium Chardonnay’s along the way. The Cap Classique tour takes you on a journey to discover how it is made, its connection with Champagne and those who loved it as we do. The Cap Classique tour is concluded with a tasting of the Phillip Jonker Brut collection. The Weltevrede Estate also houses a second tasting room for its sister brand, Cape Wine Crafters as well as Kapokbos restaurant featuring country contemporary style cuisine run by husband and wife team, Juan and Samantha Fourie.
