This unique project was founded with the mission of reviving traditional winemaking methods using clay amphorae, where wines are made by macerating the grapes with their skins and aged in vessels lined only with beeswax and pine resin. These ancestral techniques result in wines that truly reflect the soul of Bairrada’s oldest vineyards.
The tour begins with a guided visit to the medieval vineyard and winery, available in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, offering insights into the region’s heritage, natural environment, and identity. During the walk, you’ll admire the stunning Cértima River Basin, with its rice fields, native flora and fauna, and panoramic views of Caramulo and Cruz Alta, the highest peak of the Bussaco mountain range.
After the tour, you’ll enjoy a regional lunch or dinner at the winery, where typical Bairrada cuisine is masterfully paired with Amphora Wines—including both white and red varieties crafted using ancient fermentation methods.
