Good wine tour

Azienda Agricola Rabino Luigi Giuseppe is a very nice family company. The members of Rabino’s family showed us the cows’ stable where Fassona cows are breeded then the tour continued into wine cellar and finished with wine tasting. The wine is very good quality and we decided to buy a couple of bottles. I really advice to visit Azienda Agricola Rabino Luigi Giuseppe.

Thank you!

Our family business was founded in 1800. Situated on a picturesque hill in Canale, in the center of the Roero wine region in Piedmont. We are a diversified company, which not only produces wine, but is dedicated to the breeding of Piedmontese cattle and the cultivation of fruit trees: the "round and gentle Langa" hazelnut and ancient varieties of apricots.

The first traces of our family date back to the Middle Ages. The Rabinos, at the time lords of Bosia and Borgomale, were forced to flee the Alta Langa to protect themselves from frequent barbarian invasions. They found refuge in the Roero hills, in a valley that took the name Rabini. These lands that have welcomed us, the same ones that we still work and protect today, remained in the hands of our family over the centuries, allowing us to derive our livelihood through farming and cultivation. Wine production started in the mid-1800s: Antonio Rabino decided to buy some wooden barrels and make wine from his own grapes, a practice that was not very popular at the time. The first liters were reserved for family and friends, and didn’t represent any source of income, but Antonio dreamt of sharing with others what quickly became a passion. Thus he began to bottle, at a time when the concept of marketing of wine didn’t yet exist. He was one of the first to sell in bottles and, given the growing demand, seeing great potential in this small production.

From the time of Antonio to today many men have followed one another, teaching each other the art of working the land, trampling the same fields and taking care of the same vineyards. The continuity of our centuries-old history has meant that from generation to generation the experience was preserved, gradually adding bricks to what is now a solid and protective wall, which allows us to always focus on quality. Over time, the company has evolved by adopting the most modern techniques for processing, but remaining faithful to the cycle of nature. We can define ourselves sustainable, as almost all the resources used are produced directly in the company.

Over the course of the past generations, since the Rabinos began producing wine till today, the goal has always been one: to narrate our territory. Each with the means of his time, we’ve always been committed to producing wines that are both respectful and representative of our lands. In the past this translated into what I like to call “sensitive peasant intelligence“, or the ability of men of the time to understand the needs of the vine, to live in an almost symbiotic way with it without the tools and technologies of today.

The well-being of our vineyards can be measured by the naked eye. Anyone, walking among the rows around the farmhouse, can realize the transparency of our work. The 25 hectares are located in the provinces of Cuneo and Asti, between Canale, Cisterna and San Damiano, allowing us to bottle the Monferrato tradition in addition to that of Roero. However, all the vines are within 4 km of the winery, exclusively owned. Some are young and recently implanted – always keeping in mind my father’s teachings – while others are now over 80 years old. It has been 8 years since we completely eliminated the weeding, and it shows. The vegetation grows luxuriantly among the rows, in which the jobs are carried out manually, and always by us of the family.

Labels representative of the tradition of Roero, Langhe and Monferrato, produced respecting biodiversity in all the passages, from the vineyard to the cellar: Arneis, Favorita, Chardonnay as white; Barbera, Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Bonarda, Grignolino and Freisa as red.
