The Douro Experience Tour offers multiple perspectives on the historic routes once used to transport barrels of Port wine from the Douro Valley to the cellars of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia.
Your first highlight is a shared river cruise along the Douro River, where you will glide through the valley while enjoying breathtaking views and tasting a glass of Port wine or sparkling wine. The experience continues with a traditional lunch at a regional restaurant, surrounded by the people who live and work among the Douro Valley vineyards.
After lunch, enjoy a panoramic train ride through a scenic section of the valley’s heart, where the nostalgic “clickety-clack” of the train adds a timeless charm to the journey.
Your day concludes with a visit to a local winery and a wine tasting, where you can admire the iconic terraced landscapes of the Douro Wine Region, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

What I’ll be telling my friends…
This Douro Valley day tour was the highlight of our two week trip in Portugal! We were treated to a luxury concierge experience with Manuel. He drove us around to a port house tour and private tasting, a short and pleasant train ride from Pinhão station, a small group boat ride with champagne (we loved meeting other travelers while seeing the country side from this perspective!) and he also took us to a delicious lunch at a Quinta. All while explaining and sharing insights about Portugal. I was particularly interested in cork trees and he went out of his way to track them down for us so I could see them in their various harvesting phases. This meant so much us and is a great example of Windering meeting their clients unique interests!
FYI: We stayed two nights in Douro Valley with a day and a half to explore. Our first half day we visited a few quintas on our own on the way into town (we rented a car in Porto- easy drive) and our full day was spent on this Windering tour. This structure is what I would recommend to my friends and family when visiting Douro Valley!
I really loved learning about cork. I think this may interest others and seems like it’d be an easy thing to expand on and include in your tour. I would have loved to have been able to get out of the car and touch the tree bark and see it up close.
