Camigliano
Sobre la Bodega
Camigliano is a historic estate located in the heart of Montalcino, with origins dating back to Etruscan times. The area was later developed into a significant medieval settlement, becoming an important outpost in the defense of Montalcino during the 16th century.
At the center of the estate stands the ancient “castle” of Camigliano, which already flourished in the 13th century with a growing community. Over the centuries, the village evolved under the influence of noble Sienese families, while maintaining a strong rural identity. The current manor house was built within the original fortified structure, preserving the charm and character of the historic borgo. The symbol of the estate, the camel, dates back to the 13th century and reflects its deep historical roots.
The modern winery was established in 1957 and underwent significant development from the late 1980s under the current ownership. Today, the estate spans approximately 500 hectares, including around 100 hectares of vineyards, alongside olive groves and natural landscape.
The vineyards, located between 250 and 270 meters above sea level, benefit from diverse soils—ranging from sandy and clayey to fossil-rich marl—contributing to the complexity of the wines. All vineyards are organically farmed, and grape harvesting is carried out by hand with careful selection.
The winery combines tradition with innovation, featuring gravity-flow winemaking, stainless steel tanks, concrete vats, and large French oak barrels. This meticulous approach ensures the highest quality standards and a strong expression of terroir.
In addition to wine production, Camigliano has restored historic buildings within the village to welcome visitors, offering immersive experiences in a setting where history, landscape, and winemaking come together.
