Planeta Ulmo
Sobre la Bodega
Planeta Ulmo is the historic heart of the Planeta family project, located near Menfi in southwestern Sicily. It was here, around a 16th-century family farmhouse, that the journey began in the mid-1980s with the planting of the first vineyards. In 1995, the first winery was built on the shores of Lake Arancio, surrounded by unspoiled countryside and woodland.
The estate reflects a strong connection between wine, nature, and culture. It is home to the Iter Vitis museum and a “collection vineyard” featuring Sicilian and Georgian grape varieties, created to celebrate and preserve viticultural heritage. The property also offers nature trails, such as “La Segreta,” allowing visitors to explore the landscape of vineyards, forests, and scenic views. Today, the Menfi area represents the largest part of Planeta’s vineyard holdings, with over 250 hectares cultivated from sea level up to 400 meters in altitude.
Sobre los Vinos
Planeta Ulmo produces some of the winery’s most iconic labels, carefully matching grape varieties to the diverse terroirs of the Menfi area. Both indigenous and international grapes are cultivated, resulting in a broad and expressive portfolio.
Among the most representative wines is the renowned Planeta Chardonnay, considered a flagship label and a “super cru” of the estate, known for its structure, elegance, and ageing potential. Alongside it, the La Segreta line—Bianco and Rosso—offers more approachable, everyday wines that still reflect the character of the territory. Named after the surrounding woods, these wines embody freshness, balance, and versatility.
Overall, the wines of Ulmo combine innovation and tradition, expressing the richness of the Sicilian landscape through both classic and contemporary styles.
