Sobre la bodega y los vinos

Wilhelmshof Winery is located in the Pfalz region and is surrounded by an amphitheater of dramatic cliffs in Siebeldingen. The winery employs French influence in their winemaking practices. Wilhelm Jung Jr. began his winemaking journey in 1949, and in 1975, Herbert Roth and Christa Roth-Jung took over. Both are well-trained graduates of enology and have helped to revolutionize the winery. There is a proper combination of tradition and modern techniques. The sparkling wines at Wilhelmshof have won several awards, such as Germany’s Best Sparkling Producer 2018 and the Falstaff Sekt Trophy Blanc de Noirs 2018. The winery places a lot of faith in sustainable viticulture and respects the soil, climate, environment, and vineyards.

Handpicking and Gravity Flow in the Winery

Their vineyards, namely, Siebeldingen Im Sonnenschein and Frankweiler Kalkgrube, are perfect for vine cultivation. The soil is clay-based and has slate, so the vines get a lot of sunlight. The yield is low, but the grapes are of very high-quality. As the terrain is hilly and has steep slopes, most of the work is done by hand. The winemakers handpick the best grapes and take them to the winery for further processing. Their cellar is constructed with a gravity-flow and has ideal conditions for wine production with old sandstone walls.

Main Grape Varieties and Reflection of Nature

The main varieties grown at Wilhelmshof include Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Gris used to make their famous red, white, rosé sparkling wines. The winery puts in a lot of hard work and commitment in the vineyard and cellar to produce wines that reflect the region’s nature and qualities.
