À propos du vignoble et des vins

Strength is in numbers: the Azienda Agricola 499 was born as a result of the friendship and complimentary skills of Gabriele Saffirio and Mario Andrion creating a new and ambitious artisanal vine growing and winemaking estate. Together they bring estate vineyards, long standing experience and knowledge in both vine growing and winemaking in addition to extraordinary enthusiasm and passion for their crafts.

Mission: Modern rendering of the Moscato and Freisa varieties, Nebbiolo and Chardonnay in a sustainable manner in order to preserve the soils, hills, biodiversity with minimal intervention. Certify by SQNPI

499: the winery name comes from the elevation of Camo, where the facility is located. This is a village at the top of one of the highest hills of the Langhe region. Consequently all the estate vineyards are around 500 meters high a.s.l. (1600 feet).

That’s one of 499’s added values of global warming, proper ripening due to higher elevation and latitude (for the northern hemisphere). These conditions allow us to achieve the perfect phenolic and aromatic ripening and balance sugar content with refreshing natural acidity. Balanced grapes, balanced wines!

Artisanal: this is another added value at 499. We believe that quality is tied to artisanal craftsmanship and knowledge. The artisan is the man that has the knowledge and the experience. He has the idea and he has the skill to transform it into something special. He understands the process and contributes to each stage his passion, consciousness, meticulousness and precision. He has the knowledge and the experience.
