Solar de Samaniego

Bodegas Solar de Samaniego is a winery in Rioja Alavesa known for its wine tourism, art and culture. After its 50th anniversary, it continues to be recognised for the restoration of its vineyards, its production facilities and its unique industrial architecture.

The visit is inspired by the Entre Líneas (“Between the Lines”) project, which brings together the cultures of wine and literature. It has been named “Best Wine Tourism Experience” by the Wine Routes of Spain and has received the Tripadvisor “Travellers’ Choice” award.

Guests can explore the renovated outdoor spaces next to the vineyard, designed after an international competition held with the UNESCO Chair in Cultural Landscapes and Heritage, and walk through the restored areas of the winery. The visit ends with a glass of wine in the Espacio Medio Millón (“Half-Million Space”), transformed into a “Cathedral of Wine” by the monumental murals of the Australian artist Guido van Helten.

Bodegas Solar de Samaniego makes its wines from more than 80 hectares of its own vineyards, spread across several estates in Rioja Alavesa. This allows the winery to follow the whole process, from the vine to the cellar and from the cellar to the bottle.

For several years, the group has followed a sustainable viticulture model based on three pillars: protecting the plants and animals of the vineyard ecosystem, restoring the soil and using sustainable pest control.

The red wines are made from Tempranillo, Graciano and Maturana Tinta grapes. The microclimate of Rioja Alavesa, at the foot of the Sierra de Cantabria, and its excellent terroir give the best raw material for the wines. The range includes a Rioja Blanco, the single-vineyard Musco and the 7 Cepas Reserva.
