Here is what's in store for you
The Castrum Wine Relais awaits you in Valpolicella for an unforgettable evening wine experience. At the entrance of Valpolicella Classica, on the top of the highest hill of the village of Castelrotto, is perched Castrum Rotari, a military stronghold built in the seventh century that over the centuries housed important people who marked the history of Valpolicella. In 1177 King Frederick the II of Swabia, known as The Redbeard, issued a decree by which he changed the area's name from Val di Veriago and Pruviniano to Valpolicella.
Casa Fraccaroli, one of the oldest mansions in the area, built in 1790 and located in Piazza di Castelrotto consists of a Venetian Villa with an old cellar in the basement, a rustic countryhouse, a large olive grove, and a boutique winery that produces the classic wines of Valpolicella. A villa passed down from generation to generation, which has always remained in the family, and which opens its doors to introduce you to the evolution and winemaking processes used by Borghetti Giampiero, the current owner of the entire property, and to introduce you to the history of Valpolicella.
Your wine tasting will be offered in the old cellar of the Fraccaroli House, in one of the 3 stone rooms of the Castrum Wine Bistro, or on the terrace located in the square of the Castelrotto village. During the tasting, carefully selected gastronomic products like local cheese and cold cuts will be served, paired with wines from the winery's PLATINUM collection: the CASTRUM line. Bottles with art labels, each dedicated to a work by the great sculptor Innocenzo Fraccaroli, born in Casa Fraccaroli in 1805.
You can choose from 3 different formulas for your informal and relaxed wine-tasting experience, each including Amarone:
- "Short Journey", tasting of Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ripasso and Amarone Classico della Valpolicella paired with a platter of local products;
- "Long Classic Journey", tasting of Valpolicella Classico, Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ripasso, Amarone Classico della Valpolicella, and Recioto della Valpolicella paired with a platter of local products;
- "Long Classic + IGT Journey", tasting of Valpolicella Classico, Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ripasso, Corvina IGT, and Amarone Classico della Valpolicella paired with a platter of local products.
At the end of the tasting journey, the evening can continue until late in the company of friends or simply by booking a room at the Castrum Wine Relais.
