Cantina Etnella organic winery
La Cantina
Etnella is an artisanal producer of natural wines on the slopes of Mount Etna, Sicily. The project began in 2008, and its first wine, Notti Stellate Etna Rosso, was bottled in 2010 using grapes from the estate's first vineyard in Contrada Galfina, Linguaglossa.
Since then, Etnella has gradually expanded while maintaining an artisanal, sustainable, and strongly ethical approach. Its philosophy extends beyond winemaking and is rooted in responsibility toward the environment, the local community, customers, and future generations.
Today, Etnella works approximately 8 hectares of vineyards distributed across different areas and microclimates of Mount Etna. Its vineyards stretch from Milo on the eastern slope, through Montargano and Presa, to the northern side of the volcano, including Linguaglossa, Solicchiata, Passopisciaro, and Randazzo. The vines range dramatically in age, from young plantings of around 2 years to historic vines reaching 120 years old.
Around 90% of the grapes used by Etnella come from its own vineyards, while the remaining 10% are sourced from long-standing partners and local growers. In addition to wine, the estate produces small quantities of cider and organic extra virgin olive oil.
I Vini
Etnella produces approximately 25,000 bottles of natural wine per year, working with the remarkable diversity of soils, elevations, exposures, and microclimates found across the slopes of Mount Etna.
Rather than seeking uniformity, the winery embraces the individual character of its different vineyard sites. The varied conditions found between Etna's eastern and northern slopes, combined with vines ranging from just a few years to more than a century old, allow Etnella to create wines that reflect the distinctive identity of each place and vintage.
The winery follows a natural, low-intervention approach, remaining faithful to its artisanal philosophy and allowing the grapes and volcanic terroir to play the leading role. Notti Stellate Etna Rosso, first bottled in 2010 from the vineyard in Contrada Galfina, represents the wine with which Etnella's production story began.
Alongside its approximately 25,000 bottles of wine, Etnella produces around 5,000 bottles of cider and 2,500 liters of organic extra virgin olive oil each year, further reflecting its diversified and sustainable approach to agriculture on Mount Etna.
