Here is what's in store for you
Discover Marsala with this one-day wine tour!
The tour will begin from your hotel or accommodation in Palermo. Your driver will pick you up around 8: 30 with a Mercedes-Benz Vito van with a capacity of 8 seats.
The first stop of your tour will be at Bar La Sorgente in Castellammare del Golfo, just to have breakfast and taste the famous "Cassatelle" made with sheep ricotta cheese, a local specialty.
After about 20 minutes on the highway, you will reach the Archaeological Park of Segesta, an ancient city with 2,800 years of history, founded by the Elymians, people originally from ancient Troy. A must-see is the Ancient Theater carved into the rock at the top of Mount Barbaro and the Doric Temple of Segesta, with its imposing colonnade at the edge of a cliff more than 100 mt deep.
After a couple of hours (approx.), you will leave Segesta and continue in the direction of Erice, an ancient stronghold also of Elymian origin located at 750 m.a.s.l. Whoever ruled in Sicily over time necessarily had to conquer Erice and Enna, and so did the Romans, Arabs, Normans, and Spaniards. In Erice, you will be able to take in the good air and the splendid view of Trapani and the Egadi Islands, as well as taste the famous Genovesi and Almond paste cookies, the first fruits of the confectionery art of the cloistered nuns of the many convents that exist.
You will also be able to have lunch in one of the many local restaurants and trattorias and taste the traditional Trapani cuisine, or stop in some "friggitoria" and enjoy a nice Arancina or a nice piece of Rianata (local pizza).
At around 3:30 p.m., you will leave the beautiful and mysterious Erice. After just an hour's drive, the fresh, clean air of Mount Erice will make way for the intense smell of salt and Posidonia. You'll reach the monumental entrance to the historic Cantina Florio of Marsala, founded exactly in 1833.
Take a plunge into the traditional Marsala wine culture, through a guided tour of one of the oldest wineries in Sicily. Here you will taste the real Marsala, a product that has made the history of Sicilian enology thanks to the Florio family. You will have the opportunity to visit the inside of the historic cellars and, at the end of the tour, you will taste three Marsala Florios wines accompanied by 3 food pairings (the duration of the experience is about 1.5 hours).
Finally, you will be driven back to your hotel, which you'll reach at about 7:30 pm after you have experienced and tasted a small part of Sicily.
