Amarone & Appassimento Wine Tasting by Cà dei Conti at Villa De Winckels
Here is what's in store for you
Your tasting explores three sides of Cà dei Conti's winemaking, held inside Villa De Winckels, a historic inn in the hills of the Val d'Illasi, about a 30-minute drive from Verona.
Sara, who manages hospitality for the estate, leads the tasting and tells the story behind each wine: the Rancan family's interpretation of Amarone and the choices made alongside winemaker Fabio.
The three wines, in tasting order:
- Alice: a Bianco Veronese IGT, the estate's white counterpart to Amarone. It's made from white grapes that undergo the 'appassimento' drying process typically reserved for reds, resulting in a fuller, more textured white wine.
- Tano: the classic Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG. The appassimento-dried grapes create a rich, warm, and enveloping red.
- Il Conte: a Rosso Veronese IGT reserve, aged at least four years before release.
This is the estate's most patient and structured red. Alongside the wines, Villa De Winckels serves a board of Veronese cured meats and cheeses that changes with the season, featuring Soppressa Veneta and coppa from the restaurant's kitchen, prosciutto crudo di Soave, and Monte Veronese DOP at different stages of aging.
