Pienza Pecorino Cheese Tour in Val d'Orcia
Here is what's in store for you
Discover one of Tuscany’s most iconic gastronomic treasures with this Pecorino di Pienza Cheese Tour, an authentic experience dedicated to the renowned sheep’s milk cheese produced in the breathtaking landscapes of the Val d'Orcia UNESCO World Heritage Site and the Valdichiana Senese.
This experience takes you inside a traditional dairy, where you will learn about the craftsmanship, traditions, and techniques behind the production of Pecorino di Pienza, one of Tuscany’s most celebrated cheeses.
During the visit, you will meet the artisans who preserve this centuries-old tradition and gain insight into every stage of cheesemaking, from milk processing to maturation. You will discover how the unique environment of the Val d'Orcia contributes to the quality of the cheese: local sheep graze freely on hills rich in aromatic herbs, producing exceptional milk that gives Pecorino di Pienza its distinctive aromas and flavors.
The experience continues with a guided tasting of different styles of Pecorino, allowing you to understand how aging influences texture, aroma, and taste. From fresh and delicate varieties to semi-aged and fully matured cheeses, you will explore the many expressions of this extraordinary product and learn how it can be enjoyed on its own or paired with honey and fruit preserves.
Perfect for food lovers and travelers wishing to discover Tuscany beyond wine, this experience offers a unique opportunity to connect with local traditions, artisanal production methods, and the authentic flavors of the Tuscan countryside.

No good experience
So yes, we got up early to be there at 10 am, it was quite a drive from our hotel. To arrive and watch a video of a couple of minutes. If you go to a farm, you expect to see the animals, not a video of them.
After the video a short tasting of cheese with a short explanation by someone who didn't speak English well. Communication was very limited although the person in charge was making an effort to make the most of it.
The tasting was poor. Some small pieces of cheese, left behind during the tasting.
After the tasting a small tour of 5 minutes, behind the scenes, with limited information.
The tour was planned to take 2 hours. It only took 40 minutes including the tasting where we were just sitting. We didn't learn much of it, didn't see any animals,...
I f you sell a tour of 2 hours, make it a tour of 2 hours.
And make it interesting. Organised by someone who speaks the language.
And please, don't use a video.
