The Wine Tasting Atelier in Bologna: Emilia vs. Romagna
Here is what's in store for you
In a historic tavern in Bologna's Jewish Ghetto, you'll be welcomed by your host Giancarlo, a local oenologist, for a unique tasting challenge.
Over the course of two hours, the experience unfolds as a friendly competition between two of Italy's most celebrated culinary regions: Emilia and Romagna. Giancarlo will first introduce you to the fundamentals of sensory analysis, giving you the tools to evaluate wine like a professional.
You'll then apply these skills in a comparative tasting of four wines, two from Emilia and two from Romagna, that showcase how native grapes express themselves on different terroirs.
The tasting centers on an Albana DOCG, a structured white from Romagna; a Malvasia, an aromatic white; a Gutturnio DOC, a red blend of Barbera and Croatina; and a classic Sangiovese.
The wines are served with a platter of local specialties, including Mortadella and Prosciutto.
After the tasting, you and the other participants will vote to crown a winning region. The experience ends with a final game: guess the grape variety of a mystery fifth wine. The winner receives a dinner courtesy of InCantina. The enoteca, InCantina, works closely with the Enoteca Regionale dell’Emilia-Romagna, sharing its mission to promote the region’s food and wine heritage. At the end of the tasting, you will have the opportunity to purchase any of the wines you enjoyed.
Non-alcoholic option (water and juice), are available for purchase for any younger participants.
