Austrian Wine Tasting with Cold Platter at Die Weinwerkstatt in Gurk
Here is what's in store for you
Gudrun and Thomas, the owners, welcome you to Die Weinwerkstatt in the Gurktal Valley, Carinthia. They will guide you on a three-hour journey through Austria's diverse wine landscape.
Your tasting begins with a sparkling wine, followed by a curated selection of four white and four red wines from different Austrian regions. You will explore a range of grape varieties and styles, from a young, aromatic Sämling and a classic Grüner Veltliner to Rotgipfler, an indigenous Austrian grape, and a more powerful barrel-aged white. The red wine selection focuses on the sun-drenched Burgenland region, featuring characteristic Austrian varieties like Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch alongside selected international grapes.
To accompany the wines, you will be served a generous cold platter of regional specialties. This includes local air-dried ham and salami from the butcher Fleischerei Seiser, sometimes with venison, alongside a selection of cheeses, spreads, pickled vegetables, and bread from a local bakery. You'll leave with a deeper understanding of Austrian wine, from its native grapes to its regional styles.
