Discover Villa Matilde, only 1 hour from Naples, with an outstanding wine tour and tasting!

The history of this winery began in the 1960s, when Francesco Paolo Avallone, a lawyer with a passion for ancient wines, decided to bring back to life a local legendary wine, which had disappeared in the early 20th century, the Falernum. With the assistance of a group of friends, including professors in the Department of Crop Sciences at the University of Naples, Avallone was able to identify, after years of study, the grape varieties that had produced Falernum in Roman times.

With the help of local farmers, he re-planted the handful of vines that had miraculously survived devastation by phylloxera in the late 19th century, right in the Monte Massico area where they had flourished in ancient times, and he then founded Villa Matilde.

Join us for an immersive wine experience. Start your visit with a tour around the vineyard, our winemaking facility, and our aging cellars. Followed by a guided wine-tasting of 3 wines: Baia sparkling wine Martinotti method, Falanghina Sinuessa IGP or Falerno del Massico white DOP, and Stregamora Piedirosso IGP or Terre Cerase IGP Aglianico rosé perfectly complemented by a dry snack and single-portion cutting board with local cured meats and cheeses.

Wonderful discovery!

We visited Villa Matilde to celebrate a birthday in a different way. We opted for the 3-wine tasting package with a platter of local cold cuts and cheeses. We were guided with grace and professionalism to visit the vineyard, the estate, and the cellar. Our guide illustrated the history of the estate, the methods of harvesting, and wine production. Comfortably seated at a table in the shade of a beautiful porch, we then began the actual tasting of 3 wines: sparkling wine, a white Falerno, and a red. Along with the platter, they also brought us an extra virgin olive oil, also of their own production. As an extra, we were also offered a complimentary tasting of a fourth wine, a high-end Taurasi, which we greatly appreciated.
Highly recommended experience to spend the morning of a special day in an original and pleasant way!
