Arizcuren Bodega y Viñedos

Winery in Rioja, Rioja Alta, Logrono

About the Winery

Javier Arizcuren, hailing from a long line of winegrowers in Quel, La Rioja Baja, blends his expertise as an architect with his passion for viticulture. Having worked on prestigious wineries such as Marqués de Terán and Conde de los Andes, Javier eventually turned his focus to winemaking. In 2011, he took over his family’s vineyards, carefully selecting plots between 30 and 120 years old for the Arizcuren project. These organically farmed vineyards, free from synthetic chemicals, are managed with a deep respect for the land, ensuring each year’s harvest reflects the unique climatic conditions. With a commitment to showcasing the true potential of wines from Quel, Javier has become a leading figure in producing high-quality, expressive wines from La Rioja.

About the Wines

Arizcuren’s wines are a true reflection of La Rioja Baja’s terroir. The grapes are hand-selected from organically farmed vineyards, where the gobelet-trained vines thrive in ideal soil, altitude, and orientation conditions. Each vintage is carefully crafted based on the year’s unique climate, ensuring balance in fruit, acidity, and polyphenol levels. The grapes are meticulously transported to the winery in small plastic boxes to preserve their integrity. Arizcuren’s winemaking process emphasizes minimal intervention, allowing the grapes to express their full character, creating wines that capture the soul of the land and climate of Quel.

A pleasant moment
A pleasant and different urban winery experience, as it was the first time we have visited a winery in the city.

Amazing Arizcuren Winery Tour
My friends and I had a wonderful experience with winemaker Javier. He is very passionate about the work he does and it comes through as he shares the story of his wines. Also, they were extremely accommodating to us when we were unfortunately a little late (special thanks to Oscar). Oh and the tasting was delightful. It was the best way to start our time in the Rioja region.

Magnificent experience
It was a great experience, full of detail and kind explanations of the different steps, production methods and innovative techniques of an urban winery, together with the traditional and manual ways of extracting the grape. Óscar, the guide, was an excellent representative of the winery, showing the profound LOVE and knowledge that they have for their harvest and distillation.
