Grazie mille Paolo

I can’t say enough about the Verrone vineyard and winery! They picked us up from and dropped us off at the train station in Agropoli, spent the whole evening with us, and really made us feel like family. After walking around their vineyard and discussing all the different grapes they grow, we spent time on the patio and sampled some genuinely delicious wines paired with tasty snacks (prosciutto, smoked provolone, buffalo mozzarella, the list goes on). Later, they took us for a sunset walk at another vineyard they own that sits next to a recently restored 1000-year-old castle. It was such a memorable experience for us and one of the highlights of our trip to Campania. Thank you, Paolo and Antonio! We hope to see you again someday!

Tutto fantastico.

Best vineyard tour we have seen in Campania in two years!!!

Rate: 5 out of 5 1/1/24
The Verrone family has the best vineyard tour we have ever been on! They open up their historical family estate, which is the largest in the Cilento area, and the wines are second to none. We've lived in Campania now for over a year and toured a lot of vineyards, with none of them even comparable to Verrone. Paolo, the owner, and his son were our hosts for two different tours (purchase on Winedering and book in advance). He is extremely knowledgable on the whole process and is steeped in the history of the place. I cannot recommend this tour and meeting the Verrone family enough!
Visit the castle as part of the tour. It is magnificent!

About Winery and Wines

Verrone Viticoltori, founded by Antonio Verrone in 1967, is a winery deeply rooted in the traditions of the Cilento Coast, Campania Region, just a 45-minute drive from Salerno. This family-run estate embodies a passion for winemaking, with a focus on employing the best cultivation techniques while minimizing environmental impact.

Situated on over twenty hectares of terraced vineyards in Agropoli, the winery produces around 30,000 bottles annually, specializing in Aglianico and Fiano, two indigenous varietals of Campania. The estate's primary vineyard, "Tenuta Girapoggio," is located at 150 meters above sea level, within the breathtaking landscape of the Cilento National Park. The soils here, rich in clay and limestone, known locally as "flysch," contribute to the unique character of Verrone’s wines. The vineyard's exposure to the north, west, and south enhances the complexity of the grapes grown here.

In addition to Tenuta Girapoggio, the Verrone family also cultivates vines on the "Tenuta of the Rocca Cilento Castle," a historic estate that spans two hectares around the ancient Rocca Cilento Castle, at an altitude of 650 meters. The first vineyards of Fiano at this site were planted in 1967, and the terroir, similar to that of Tenuta Girapoggio, ensures that the wines produced here maintain the same high quality.

Antonio Verrone, along with his sons Paolo and Massimo, welcomes guests to the winery, offering tastings and meals on a terrace that overlooks the vineyards, the bay of Agropoli, and the Gulf of Salerno. The vineyard is not just a place of production but also a botanical showcase of the local flora, including olive trees, which adds to the overall experience.

Antonio Verrone's commitment to the land is evident in his decision to plant only grape varieties typical of the region, ensuring that his wines possess a unique character and strong personality. The winery’s respect for tradition, combined with a modern approach to viticulture, visits Verrone Viticoltori a memorable highlight for anyone exploring the Cilento region.

The wines produced by Verrone Viticoltori are exclusively crafted from grapes harvested from their meticulously cared-for vineyards in Cilento. These high-quality crus embody the unique character and strong personality of the region, reflecting the deep connection between the land, the grape varieties, and the skilled hands that cultivate them.

The process begins with the manual harvesting of the grapes, ensuring a careful selection of the best bunches. The grapes are then swiftly transported to the cellar to preserve their integrity before de-stemming. The must is separated from the skins through a gentle and thorough process, allowing for the complete extraction of the essential varietal characteristics that define these wines.

Throughout the winemaking process, temperature control is carefully maintained during fermentation, refinement, and all subsequent stages, ensuring that the wines develop with the desired complexity and structure. The dedicated care given to both the vineyards and the winemaking process in the cellar results in wines that are not only structured and complex but also elegant — true reflections of the Cilento terroir.

These wines are a perfect synthesis of territory, grape variety, and the craftsmanship of those who produce them, capturing the essence of the land and the traditions of the region.
