About Winery and Wines
Poggio al Bosco is a family-run organic farm born in 1960 when the great-grandfather Giovanni decided to change his family life. We are located in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, in the heart of Chianti, halfway between Florence and Siena.
Our winery's name is very closely linked with the area we live in. Poggio in the Tuscan language means hill and "bosco" is "forest": our vineyards lie on a hill surrounded by green woods.
The winemaking tradition has been handed down from generation to generation and after centuries of sharecropping work, in 1960, the grandfather Giovanni with his sons Primo and Mario bought the land of this company and so they became direct growers of their land.
In those years the planting of the first vineyards of the company began by taking care of every single plant ever and giving rise with the passion of every single gesture to a quality product.
Today we continue with the same dedication of the past following in the footsteps of our grandparents: the nature of the land and the excellent exposure are the characteristics that allow us to keep the ancient wine tradition unchanged.
Here you can find not only the historical production of wine and olive oil but also other products such as wine-based jellies to accompany cheese and meats, a unique handmade chocolate cream made with our olive oil, and a complete range of products for the care and well-being of the body that takes advantage of the beneficial properties of the wine and olive oil.
We are really proud to be a complete supply chain even if we are a small winery. Here in Poggio al Bosco we cultivate and take care of every single grapevine because as our Lorisse says:
"Wine is made in the vineyard before that in the cellar!"
We exclusively harvest by hand and follow the vinification step by step up to the final bottling that we personally carry out inside the cellar. By harvesting our grapes manually, we keep the bunches intact until the moment of pressing and select the first quality ones we use for our bottled wines. We started to bottle wine in the early 2000s: by that moment we had begun to study and experiment with new recipes to combine the flavors of our tradition with innovative and international tastes.
