Azienda Biologica De Sanctis

Winery in Roman Castles, Frascati

About the Winery

The De Sanctis family has been cultivating vineyards in the Frascati region since 1816, carrying forward a deep-rooted tradition of winemaking. In the last decade, we have embarked on a mission to revitalize and elevate our production, challenging the outdated perception of Frascati wine as a simple "house wine" served in Roman trattorias. Our goal is to showcase the true potential of Frascati wines, emphasizing their rich organoleptic qualities and the unique experience they can offer.

Located in the Castelli Romani area, just south of Rome, our organic winery is situated on land with a rich volcanic history. Specifically, our vineyards are planted within the ancient basin of Lake Regillo, part of the larger crater of the Lazio volcano. This unique terroir, with its mineral-rich soils, plays a crucial role in the character and quality of our wines. At De Sanctis, we are committed to producing wines that reflect the authenticity of our land while offering visitors a glimpse into the history and culture of this storied region.

About the Wines

At De Sanctis, our organic wines are a true expression of the Frascati terroir, crafted with care and respect for tradition. We produce six distinct lines that capture the essence of our region:

Abelos Frascati Superiore DOCG: A blend of Malvasia Puntinata and Bombino, this wine exemplifies the elegance and freshness that Frascati wines are known for. It is crisp, aromatic, and perfectly balanced, making it a standout in our collection.

496 Frascati Superiore DOCG: Named in honor of the year Frascati was first mentioned in historical records, this wine combines Malvasia Puntinata with Trebbiano Toscano. It is a refined expression of Frascati’s winemaking heritage, offering a harmonious blend of fruit and acidity.

Amacos: A sophisticated wine made from Malvasia Puntinata and Bombino, aged for six months in large oak barrels. This aging process imparts a richer, more complex profile, with notes of honey and dried fruit.

Iuno IGT Lazio Rosso: A pure Cabernet Franc, aged for one year in barrique. This red wine is bold and structured, with deep flavors of dark berries and spice, showcasing the versatility of Lazio’s terroir.

Onde IGT Lazio Rosé: Made from Cabernet Franc, this rosé is vibrant and refreshing, with a delicate balance of red fruit flavors and crisp acidity, perfect for enjoying on a warm day.

Cannellino di Frascati DOCG: A sweet, late-harvest wine made from Malvasia grapes affected by noble rot. This wine is luscious and rich, with honeyed sweetness and a lingering finish, ideal for pairing with desserts or enjoying on its own.

Each of our wines tells a story of the land, the history, and the passion that goes into every bottle. At De Sanctis, we invite you to discover the true potential of Frascati wines through our carefully crafted organic selections.

Interesting experience
I went to the De Sanctis winery for a tasting with a friend of mine. We started with a visit to the vineyard where it was explained to us which grapes are grown and other useful information, then we were shown and told about the production process and finally we tasted 4 of their wines accompanied by a paired platter. It was a really interesting experience and the wines are really good, so much so that we bought one!

Wonderful experience
The De Sanctis organic farm is immersed in greenery and peace.
Flavia, the girl who guided me on the tour, was very good at conveying the passion of those who run this company.
The cellar is beautiful and you can feel all the love for the raw materials and the territory.
Furthermore, I particularly appreciated the tasting because the proposed pairings were just right and the atmosphere of the room where I was was truly relaxing!
I really liked the wines, especially the Onde rosé from the Cabernet Franc grape variety, which I appreciated for its aromas!

Like at home
We had a wonderful time. First we were accompanied into the vineyard to observe the rows of vines and discover their history and that of the surrounding area. Then we explored the laboratory where the wine is born and finally the cellar, a truly evocative place. Finally we tasted the excellent wines accompanied by local products and more. We really appreciated the view, and the hospitality that made us feel among friends right away.

Good winery a stone's throw from Rome
Good winery and interesting volcanic wines, particularly the Malvasia.
Good platter of typical products included in the tasting.
Good guide in the cellar and vineyard.
Too bad about the short time spent there, it would have been nice to be able to continue with lunch and taste other bottles!
It was lovely, we will be back.

A picture perfect experience
While I was planning my trip to Italy, I knew I wanted to try out a wine tasting experience. I did a little research and came across azienda bio De Sanctis. Honestly I had no expectations. I wanted to do something fun with my boyfriend.
This turned out to be the most beautiful, informative experience.
Flavia greeted us and even though we were 20 mins late she was very accommodating.
She walked us through the property, Her English is perfect. The tour took a good 35 mins. She was very thoral and answered all our questions.
When the tour was over, she took us to a beautiful living space where we sampled the wines while pairing them with specific foods.
It was an experience I will never forget and I'm sure will be hard to beat.
Thank you
