About Winery and Wines

Seventy years ago in the heart of Bari's Murgia, on the hills stretching between Turi and Gioia del Colle, Raffaele Giuliani gave life to this reality, today led by his son Donato. Optimal geographical position and favorable climate allow the grapes of our vineyards to reach the right level of ripeness and to transfer to the wines the unmistakable specific qualities of the territory, appreciable in the intense red-purple color which characterizes the berries of Primitivo and Aleatico, symbolic vines of our viticultural area, the one of Gioia del Colle DOC. The company covers an area of 50 hectares in the district "called sotto il canale" near the archaeological findings of Mount Sannace. The whole production cycle is followed with care and passion in order to obtain quality wines, from the harvesting still done by hand, to the vinification and finally to the bottling by Enotecnico Luca Petrelli and by Agronomist Donato Giuliani. Our commitment, our passion and the great vocation that binds us to this job are constantly rewarded, not only by the affection of our customers, but also by the many national and international awards that Giuliani's wines continue to receive.

Vines which are part of the composition of Gioia del Colle DOC Primitivo wine, are made of residuals deriving from the dissolution of calcareous rocks, composed by iron and aluminum oxides and hydroxides. These clayey soils are ideal, because of their richness in potassium and the relative poverty of organic matter, for the cultivation of varieties of grapes for fine red wines as well as white grapes. Vines sink their roots in the calcareous layer immediately underneath the thin layer of fertile soil. The altitude of the areas cultivated with vine is between 200 and 450 meters above sea level, on slight slopes and with an exposition mainly oriented towards south-east. Primitivo Doc Gioia del colle is a delicate and complex wine and it is pleasing to the palate, full bodied, harmonic and mellow.
