Polvanera was born from a long family tradition that has always had roots in viticulture. The cellar is rooted in the territory and is immersed in a unique landscape, with vineyards, dry stone walls, and oak stalks. The typical area varieties in the rows are home, from Marchione to Muscat, from Aglianico to Primitivo, passing through the Minutolo, Falanghina, Aleatico, and Bianco d'Alessano. The geographical location, organic agriculture, and cellar were excavated for 8 meters in the limestone rock, allowing the wines to refine at a constant temperature, making the typical Primivo of the area and the other varieties of wine extraordinary. Unique and extraordinary bottles come to life that represent a fixed point in the Apulian wine tradition.

MIR was born from an intuition of Guglielmo Zito, founder and leader of the project. Among the primary objectives, the creation of a family business, rooted in the territory, in which to personally commit oneself following every phase of the supply chain: the MIR micro-winery is developed around an ancient structure from 1860 in Locorotondo, on whose upper floor, sales and tastings take place, and in whose basements the refinement, in amphora and tonneau, of the MIR Valle D'Itria wines takes place: limited editions with unique characteristics and created to acquire value over time. At the base of the winemaking activity: a constellation of small plots of land specifically chosen for each type of winemaking, personally cared for by Guglielmo Zito himself, in synergy with the technical consultancy of Simone Santoro and through constant reference to the traditional wisdom preserved by the vine growers present in the Itria Valley.

The history of our winery, surrounded by the picturesque landscape of the Itria Valley, began in the 70′s, when grandad Giuseppe and his son Franco bought a winery on the outskirts of Locorotondo and established what is now one of the oldest and most prestigious family-run wineries in Puglia, already in its third generation with Marianna and Vito. Today’s winery owes everything to the initiative of Giuseppe Cardone, the eldest of seven children, a man of great intelligence and intuition especially for the business: in fact He devoted always himself to commerce ( buyng and selling everything that he could) and in the late 60′s he began to attend the wine markets of the northen regions increasing fame and esteem for him also in the north of Italy. He had no other hobbies other than the love for his only son, Franco, who he strongly desired to have at his side, as soon as he finished his studies. A wish fulfilled in the 70′s, which was fully realized with the purchase of a winery in Locorotondo. It is under the guidance of Franco, helped by a team of qualified professional winemakers and agronomists selected by him, that the family company specialized in the production of high quality wines.

The first harvest is still on my mind. It was September 2004. It was almost like a party for all my family. I was just twenty and fully responsible for the success or failure of our first grape harvest. Everything ought to be perfect. The first fermentations of white Malvasia, collected close to the cellar, the first decanting. The first labels with our brand name and the first cases shipped overseas. Joys, worries and fears. Somebody appreciated our job, others didn’t trust it. However, year after year, harvest after harvest we have succeeded. I am still looking personally after the exclusively hand-made grape harvesting, in boxes. Just like in the past, the whole family participate actively, following the whole process in the vineyard. Every year we harvest only the grapes grown in our vineyards, about 1000 qli of local grapes such as Nero di Troia, white Malvasia, Bombino bianco etc. And every year we bottle and refine in our underground cellars about 70000 bottles to be shipped both on a national and international level. Is it that all? No, absolutely. We not only work in our vineyards and cellars, but also outside, by promoting our territory, supporting our productions, continuously looking for local Apulian vines as well as experimenting innovative wine-making technologies aiming at drastically reducing the human impact on wines.

The lands of Tenuta Viglione are located at the foot of the Murgia Barese, in a particular hilly area at an altitude of about 450 meters, at the highest geographical point of the D.o.c. of Gioia del Colle, where the exposure is better and the slopes are higher. On these lands are the precious grape plants of the family business. The land and crops from which the "Tenuta Viglione" wines are born are all owned by the company, grown with native primitive grapes from Gioia del Colle, Trebbiano and Malvasia. The attention to the vineyards is constant, in particular considering that of the primitive that grows strong and luxuriant here, also thanks to a meticulous and careful selection over time, carefully choosing some primitive clones that have the characteristic of resisting the strong temperature variations of the area and that allow you to produce a wine of great quality. The cultivation of the primitive in this area boasts a long and historical tradition, in fact, the vine spread in this area of the territory at the end of the 1700s thanks to the primicerio priest Francesco Indellicati who selected an early ripening vine which he called, for this reason, "PrimAtivo" and which he planted in Liponti, in the Terzi district of Gioia del Colle.

The history of the Angiuli winery goes back to 1880 and continues until today. Nature and landscape must be respected! This philosophy has been indisputable since 1880 in Adelfia, the heart of the wine-growing region of the Primitivo DOP Gioia del Colle. Hence our desire to cultivate local vines in harmony with the soil and the microclimate. Donato Angiuli has created the Maccone brand for his winery’s niche wines. Maccone was the “artist name” of the first cellar master at our Angiuli winery. An impressive personality of outstanding professionalism, a celebrity among the regional winemakers. The wines of this product line come from old Alberello vines. The vines are between 50 and 80 years old and each produce only a few grapes, which, however, increase the quality of the final product all the more. Our Spumante Brut is the result of our passion and creativity and an original method unique in the international oenology scene: bottle fermentation without the addition of yeasts and sugars.

We look at vines and wines like people and give them all the best we could desire for ourselves. We give them care through our daily attention and loving presence on the vineyards in respect of the utmost artisanal winemaking traditions. We provide a fresh and comfortable environment through the soundproofing of the premises and temperature control; tranquillity and harmony by applying music therapy in the cellar, a mix of classical music and sounds from nature to support the micro oxygenation and the activity of the living micro flora present in our natural wines. This mix is the key to our success. We took great care in choosing the soil that became the home of our vineyards and made the conscious decision to plant them all around our winery. We wanted to be near our vines daily and be able to take the fresh picked grapes immediately into the cellar during the harvesting to preserve the top quality of the grapes for winemaking. This is our way to make a truly locally grown product. We carefully chose the wild-vines, the growing system and the pruning most suitable for our vines, to give life to our belief in absolute quality combining this with our strong will to vinify just on our own organic autochthonous grapes and bottle our entire organic wine production. We believe the success of a wine has to start from the roots of the vine by choosing all the best for the fruit of our labour, at any sacrifice, to create a very limited production of the highest quality.
