Black Island Winery, established in 2018, stands on the historic grounds of the former Agricultural Cooperative Jedinstvo in Smokvica, where the first Pošip wine was born. By breathing new life into this iconic location, we have transformed it into a must-visit wine destination, dedicated to producing exceptional wines from indigenous Pošip grapes. Our mission is to revive Pošip’s prominence on the global wine stage, all while honoring the rich winemaking traditions of the island of Korčula.

The winery’s name draws inspiration from Korčula’s ancient titles—Korkyra Melaina in Greek and Corcyra Nigra in Latin—both meaning “Black Korčula.” The island’s lush Mediterranean vegetation, alongside its natural beauty and cultural heritage, has made Korčula renowned not only for its breathtaking landscapes but also for its long-standing tradition of vine cultivation and winemaking.
