Blue Sky Vineyards

Blue Sky Vineyard is a family-owned winery located in Makanda, Illinois, in the scenic Shawnee Hills, an area known for its emerging wine culture and natural beauty. The project began in the 1990s as a dream to create not only a vineyard, but a complete wine experience rooted in place and hospitality.

The winery officially opened to the public on July 4, 2005, and since then has established itself as a distinctive destination combining winemaking, architecture, and tourism. Designed by Nancy Karen Brian, the estate features a Tuscan-inspired villa, bringing a touch of Italy to the rolling hills of southern Illinois.

Today, Blue Sky Vineyard is part of the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail, offering not only wines but also a serene environment ideal for events, weddings, and relaxing getaways. Its location, surrounded by woodlands and overlooking the Shawnee National Forest, enhances the sense of tranquility and connection with nature.

Blue Sky Vineyard produces a wide range of handcrafted wines made primarily from grapes grown in southern Illinois, reflecting the unique terroir of the region.

The portfolio includes both red and white wines, as well as blends and varietals such as Chambourcin, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, and other hybrid and vinifera grapes suited to the local climate.

The winemaking philosophy focuses on expressing the character of the land, with each wine aiming to showcase the balance between fruit, soil, and climate. The result is a collection of wines that are approachable, expressive, and representative of this growing American wine region.
