Bodegas Valdelana is a historic winery located in Elciego, the noble birthplace of Rioja Alavesa wines, nestled between the Sierra de Cantabria Mountains and the Ebro River. Our family's winemaking tradition dates back to the late 19th century, and for generations, we have cultivated a deep connection with this unique land. Our estate spans 150 hectares of prime vineyards, where we combine traditional methods with modern expertise to produce wines that reflect the true essence of Rioja Alavesa.

The terroir here is exceptional, defined by three key factors: soil, climate, and grape variety. The chalky-clay, ochre-colored soil imparts a delicate aroma and smooth palate to our wines, making them ideal for ageing. The region’s climate is equally favorable, as the Cantabrian Mountains shield the vineyards from cold northern winds, while the vineyards’ south-easterly orientation towards the Ebro River ensures optimal sun exposure for perfect ripening. At Bodegas Valdelana, we take great pride in the indigenous Tempranillo and Graciano varieties, which form the backbone of our wines, free from foreign influence.

At Bodegas Valdelana, our wines are a true reflection of the rich Rioja Alavesa terroir. The vast majority of our production—97%—is focused on the iconic Tempranillo grape, renowned for its versatility and elegance, complemented by Graciano, a native variety that adds complexity and depth. These grapes thrive in the unique chalky-clay soil and under the perfect climate conditions created by the proximity of the Cantabrian Mountains and the Ebro River.

Our wines are full-bodied and expressive, marked by their delicate aromas and smooth textures, making them ideal for ageing. Whether you are tasting a young, vibrant Tempranillo or a more mature, sophisticated Rioja blend, each bottle encapsulates the essence of the Rioja Alavesa region.
