Cantina Moros

Winery in Salento

About the Winery

Cantina Moros is a truly unique space where wine, art, and architecture come together in perfect harmony. Serving as the headquarters of Claudio Quarta Vignaiolo, the winery is also a contemporary art gallery, where the production environment is enriched by works of significant artistic value. Among barrels and workspaces, visitors can admire paintings and the striking mural “Germinazioni3” by Maestro Ercole Pignatelli, a leading figure in Italian and European figurative art since the 1960s.

Beneath the winery lies an equally fascinating dimension: the underground cellar houses the private Museum of the Symposium of Claudio Quarta, displaying archaeological artifacts that trace the ancient history of wine. The entire space has been thoughtfully redesigned to offer an immersive experience where aesthetics and functionality coexist.

Visitors are invited on a journey that blends wine culture with artistic expression. The winery regularly hosts exhibitions by emerging artists, along with tastings that are sometimes enriched by spontaneous performances of dance and theater. Moros stands as a place where the deep connection between art and wine can be truly felt.

About the Wines

Moros is the flagship wine of the estate, born in the heart of Salento from Negroamaro grapes complemented by a small percentage of Malvasia Nera, in line with ancient local traditions. The grapes come from a historic vineyard of just over one hectare, carefully recovered from abandonment and rooted in the region’s characteristic dark, clay-rich soils.

Production is meticulous and quality-driven: grapes are harvested strictly by hand, with low yields to ensure concentration and excellence. Vinification takes place in a small, modern cellar, after which the wine naturally flows by gravity into the underground barrel cellar. Here, it ages for 12 months in French oak barriques, developing structure, depth, and elegance.

The first vintage, 2012—now considered a collector’s label—quickly gained international acclaim. Upon its market debut in 2015, it received an impressive 90/100 score from both Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate and Wine Spectator, confirming Moros as a wine of outstanding quality and character.
