About Winery and Wines
Cantina Roberto Mazzi, established in the early 1900s, is located in the hills of Negrar, one of the five municipalities in the classic Valpolicella region. In the 1960s, after completing his agricultural studies, Roberto Mazzi began bottling wines under the Sanperetto label, marking the start of a tradition that distinguished production by vineyard.
Positioned in the province of Verona, this estate benefits from its location in the historic area renowned for producing Valpolicella and Amarone wines. The winery's 8 hectares of vineyards, cultivated over generations, are dedicated to producing wines that embody the unique characteristics of the region's terroir. Roberto’s sons, Stefano and Antonio, now oversee the winemaking process, blending traditional methods with modern expertise to ensure high quality.
The estate offers guided tours, allowing one to explore the winemaking process and taste wines that reflect the soul and history of Valpolicella.
Cantina Roberto Mazzi has its own 8 hectares of vineyards situated in the prime hillside locations of Calcarole, Castel, Poiega, Sanperetto, and Villa, known for their ideal conditions for viticulture. Today, the farm is managed by Roberto Mazzi’s sons, Stefano and Antonio, with the expert oenological advice of their friend Paolo. Together, they blend tradition with innovation to produce around 50,000 bottles annually, including Valpolicella Classico, Valpolicella Superiore, Amarone, Recioto della Valpolicella Classico, and Rosso Veronese IGT.
A hallmark of Valpolicella winemaking, the Appassimento process plays a crucial role in shaping the unique character of the wines produced at the Mazzi family winery. Grapes are harvested with care and undergo a slow natural drying process, allowing the bunches to concentrate their sugars and aromas. This traditional technique infuses the wines with greater complexity and depth, creating a distinct profile for the winery's Amarone and Recioto. The Appassimento process highlights the rich heritage of the region while showcasing the Mazzi family's dedication to winemaking excellence.
