About Winery and Wines

The Saputi Winery and Vineyards were started in the heart of the Marche region, an area in between the Adriatic Sea and the Sibillini mountains. In the first half of the twentieth century, the founder, Angelo Saputi created one of the first wineries in the Marche region with wines of great character. The winery passed to his son, Adriano, who passionately and devotedly continued the expansion with the building of a new winery in 1962, sheltered by a hill known as, since the time of the Picentes by the name of "Castru Vecchiu". Today, Alvaro leads the business alongside his two sons. Caring deeply about the land, the vineyards growing on it, the wines produced from the vines and above all, for the sake of their children and future generations, the Saputi family has pursued a path towards a more organic and eco-friendly cultivation, eschewing pesticides and chemicals. Changing all the vineyards from conventionally grown to organically grown vines, means that the winery has from 2017, been able to label its products as “certified organically produced wines”. The Saputi family has always paid attention to technological innovations and the concept of the green economy. In addition to new bottling technology and temperature controls in the barrels, the vineyard has become self-sufficient in terms of energy by installing a photovoltaic system. As of today, the vineyard has more than 24 hectares, with a collection of 12 labels in its winery and an annual output of around 120 000 bottles. As a family of wine producers for four generations, the Saputi winery opened the agriturismo Villa le Vigne to be able to host importers and distributors interested in purchasing its wines and anyone else interested in not only "wine tours" but also in discovering more about this magnificent region in the heart of Italy. The farmhouse is surrounded by the lush greenery of the Saputi family vineyards and olive groves.

Since 1962 the family have been engaged in the development of their business by introducing, in addition to the native Ribona grape, other new varieties of grapes such as Verdicchio, Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Passerina, Chardonnay, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc. For the process of making red wines, the Saputi winery chose the Ganimede method that assures an increased quality of maceration of the grapes and the extraction of colour and tannins, without use of electric pumps, thanks to the use of the natural principles of physics.
