It all began in 1968 when Costantino Rozzi (the founder of the winery) decided to produce and promote Piceno wines and bought the first vineyards. His first bottles of CDO Rosso Piceno Superiore date back to 1970. CDO Rosso Piceno Superiore can only be produced in 13 municipalities of the province of Ascoli Piceno, in a hilly area overlooking the Adriatic Sea. The VILLA PIGNA winery is located in one of these towns, Offida. The winery has a large underground area where the wines mature in quality wooden barrels at a constant natural temperature, and on the ground floor where the wines are aged in concrete vats that allow them to breathe naturally, then transferred to steel tanks before being bottled. The winery is surrounded by 30 hectares of land, including 8 hectares of organic vineyards. The vines are trained using both the Guyot pruning system and the spurred cordon system. The wide range of soils, altitudes and exposures allows the grapes to be harvested at different times of the year, to make precise and technical decisions about the blend. Since 2003 the wines of VILLA PIGNA have been under the direction of Riccardo Cotarella, a renowned oenologist who has shared with the company the growing popularity of its wines and the local area. Today, after several changes in the family, Villa Pigna is managed by Costantino's daughter, Anna Maria, and his grandson, Giorgio. After two decades of excellence at both national and international levels, the winery is now dedicated exclusively to the production of Rosso Piceno Superiore. This choice may seem controversial, given the company's origins, but it is based on the deep roots that the company has always had with the territory and on the new management's passion for the most emblematic denomination that Rozzano wine could best represent.

Today, Tenuta Mattei spans 100 hectares of vineyards, including prestigious grape varieties such as Verdicchio, Lacrima, Montepulciano, Sangiovese, and Merlot. The winery produces approximately 1,150,000 bottles of wine each year, a testament to its significant presence in the Italian wine industry. Tenuta di Tavignano is in the area of Cingoli (province of Macerata). The property is on hills that dominate the valleys of the Esino and Musone rivers, on one side one can see the San Vicino mountain and on the other side the Adriatic sea and the Conero Riviera. Our estate has 230 hectares of land, 30 of which are dedicated to vineyards that are divided into two: white grapes on the estate side and red grapes closer to the sea. We cultivate our vineyards respecting the plant’s life cycle, creating biodiversity by making the soil healthy and nutrient rich, pushing the plants towards total self-sufficiency and thus natural behaviours. The vineyards stand in the heart of the “Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi DOC Classico” and of the "Rosso Piceno DOC ”appellations. The climatic and soil conditions - such as ideal altitude, exposure, day/night temperature range, soft slopes, absence of fog and optimal northern ventilation - create a perfect microclimate for a low environmental impact viticulture. The estate is now certified organic. The soils composition - medium texture characterized by marly-calcareous rocks — gives a characteristic mineral and sapid flavour to the wines. We fully realise that nature is a perfect, self-sufficient ecosystem capable of growing and thriving without any human intervention at all. At Tavignano Estate we toil the land to restore and maintain as much as possible that natural state of things and that bond with the land that has always distinguished our ancestors. Thanks to this management, in 2018 we received organic certification.

Provides 1 wine tasting and winery visit from €35.00
Azienda Agricola Colleonorato's origins are deeply rooted in a century-long family history of working the land. The founder, born above a winery established in 1900, pursued a degree in Economics and Marketing in agro-industries without initially intending to make wine. Yet, her family's long-standing connection to agriculture, passed down through generations, ultimately led her to cultivate her passion for winemaking. Colleonorato was born from the need to honor her family’s past and embrace her love for nature. The winery is situated along Via Colleonorato, the very place of the founder's birth and the site of the new state-of-the-art winery dedicated to producing their flagship Verdicchio wines: Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore in two labels, “Prologo” and “La Giostra,” as well as the Rosso Piceno labeled “Il Cortese.” A deep partnership with Luca, who shares in the management of the vineyard, helps to fuel the winery’s innovative approach. Together, they push boundaries to create a Verdicchio that balances tradition and unconventional choices, producing wines that reflect both the region's rich legacy and modern techniques. At Colleonorato, winemaking is seen as an art form, designed to create sensory orchestrations that blend tradition with contemporary craftsmanship. The winery prides itself on continuous innovation, transforming Verdicchio into a showcase for creativity while preserving the fundamental roots of traditional, artisanal production. This philosophy of constantly striving for the highest quality fuels their journey to produce wines that harmoniously combine balance, intensity, and aroma, evoking the essence of their land.

More information on The Marches

The Italian region of the Marches (Le Marche), enclosed between the Apennines and the Adriatic sea, offers beautiful sceneries of soft green hills, from which glimpses of the sea can be seen. In its territory, particularly suited to the cultivation of vines, you will be able to enjoy some unique wine tastings and winery visits.

During your winery visits in the Marches, you will learn how viticulture in the region dates back to ancient times, but in the past, its production consisted mainly of wine made with various varieties and no strict techniques, mostly intended for family consumption. After World War II, better-quality vines were planted in the region’s territory and new winemaking technologies were adopted, marking the turning point for Marches’ wine production. In the 60s, the first DOCs of the region were defined. Nowadays, the Marches boast 15 DOC, 5 DOCG and 1 IGT wine.
