Cascina Giambolino
About the Winery
Cascina Giambolino is a family-run winery that embodies the traditions and values passed down through generations. Located in Villaromagnano (AL), in the heart of the Colli Tortonesi, the estate has been dedicated to agriculture and winemaking for decades. The land has been cultivated by the family for over 70 years, with the oldest vineyards once belonging to Lele’s grandfather, a vine grower who initially sold his grapes to the local wine cooperative.
The modern journey of Cascina Giambolino began in 1991 with the foundation of Azienda Agricola Nicoletta Calandra, named after Lele’s mother, who was the first to transform the farm’s grape harvest into wines for internal vinification and bottling. While the production of meats and cured meats took precedence for some years, a renaissance in winemaking arrived in 2019 with the official birth of the Cascina Giambolino brand. This transformation was solidified in 2021, when Lele took over from his mother, initiating a complete renewal of the winery—revamping the cellar, rebranding the labels, and crafting a fresh commercial identity.
Today, Cascina Giambolino is a symbol of sustainable agriculture and artisanal production, offering a zero-kilometer farm-to-table experience that celebrates both wine and local gastronomy.
About the Wines
Spanning 10 hectares of vineyards, Cascina Giambolino cultivates its vines in the UNESCO-listed wine-growing area of Strada Rampina (Piasèra) and Fonti di Villaromagnano. The estate is dedicated to enhancing the Colli Tortonesi D.O.C. appellation, focusing on both traditional and indigenous grape varieties.
The winery’s main varietals include:
Barbera – A cornerstone of Piedmontese winemaking, producing vibrant and structured wines.
Timorasso – The flagship white grape of the region, known for its remarkable aging potential and mineral-driven complexity.
Croatina – A local red grape that adds depth and richness to the winery’s portfolio.
Cortese – A crisp and refreshing white variety, also used for sparkling expressions.
The winery embraces sustainable viticulture, ensuring that every step of production — from vineyard management to cellar practices — respects the land and enhances the natural expression of the grapes. The cellar has been recently renovated, allowing for a more refined vinification process, while the new wine labels and branding reflect the estate’s commitment to quality and authenticity.
With a deep connection to the land and a strong family legacy, Cascina Giambolino continues to craft wines that tell the story of the Colli Tortonesi, offering visitors an immersive experience through tastings, vineyard tours, and farm-to-table pairings.
