You'll feel like you are in Europe

4/1/19
Amazing property is worth a visit! You'll think that you are in Italy. Wine was okay although I'd go for their premium wines if I visited again as they were much better. Guide was informative and interesting. Overall a great place to visit and spend some time. They have a great gift shop!
I suggest tasting their more expensive higher premium wines.

We visited in February, so off season..we had a great experience. The guy at the tasting bar was really friendly and informative. This was our first wine tasting experience and we enjoyed it. We are glad we chose Castello because the whole family could enjoy the grounds and the walk round the castle. Ofcourse this is not an 'actual' medieval castle but till we visit Europe this will do :)

Amazing experience. The tour and wine tasting is excellent. They spared no expense in constructing the castle. From importing the stones from Italy to bringing in elements like the iron maiden this is a well thought out design. It is a completely different experience from any other winery and needs to be a must see when planning a trip to Napa.

The wine is also very good. Take some time to enjoy this experience.

Came in from Texas to visit family, this place was awesome! Loved the castle, the sweet wines were great, took some home. The chocolate with it divine and Ivan was on point! Would definitely visit again.

The best part of this place is the chickens and the goats. Obviously the castle and grounds are beautiful. Very commercialized set up. Definitely a tourist trap situation but a good experience overall. We didn't love the wines but our tasting session was pleasent.

Castle is awesome! Wines, not so much. Be forewarned, this is a total tourist trap. But if you head in with the proper state of mind, it can actually be a fun visit. $25/pp entrance fee which includes wine tasting (no discount for non-drinkers).

The castle is a sight to see, but you are limited in the areas you visit, unless you spring for a guided tour. Staff quality is inconsistent, but trends towards aloof and occasionally rude. Wine is ~meh~. They say they sell their wine only at the castle. I'm guessing it's really because they haven't found a distributor willing to pick them up. Don't get suckered into joining their club, when there are far, far better wines in the area.

Majestic facility - takes you back to the 13th century. Aesthetically pleasing in that it offers visitors a span in time when castles and artwork collided. Tour of the facility is very educational as it really illustrates the wine making process as well as some behind the scenes operations not normally introduced at most winery. Variety of wines are excellent - seems they have a good handle of it. Tasting rooms are of various size - but very accommodating --- traditional sales pitch but not pushy, a plus. Ensure that you make reservation especially if you plan to visit later in the week as they get packed. Have your camera ready and be sure to check your battery level before the tour.

Great wine, beautiful view, and a hill top castle. If you're looking to do a wine tour I highly recommend Castello Di Amorosa. Our tour guide was very knowledgable about the history behind the castle and wines they had to offer. We were taken on a guided tour around the castle for about an hour. At the end we tasted 5 delicious wines and paired them with chocolate. This was a great experience and well worth it!

Loved our experience at Castillo De Amorosa..Amazing views..But the Best was getting a tour guide with so much knowledge. Steve K was absolutely remarkable. He knew every single detail of the castle and had very unique and funny stories to share will all of us. I really enjoyed having a person that knows what they are talking about. Good job Castillo de amorosa for having a person so valuable.

We wandered in the lounge during our first visit, where the pourer gave us an upgrade so we can stay there to taste the wine. IL Barone was not on the tasting menu but he brought that out so we can try it. I loved the 2011 so much that I bought 2 bottles of that one :) They ended up pouring us 10 tastings although the flight was for 5-6. Such warm hospitality and love for wine!!

About Winery and Wines

Nearly twenty years ago, I purchased the spectacular property upon which I built Castello di Amorosa. It sat on a hundred-seventy beautiful acres of forest and hills with a stream, a lake, one of the first houses built in Napa County and a great Victorian home where I chose to live. It was my dream property, culminating a search of many years. The purchase also came with a great building permit for a large winery building which had taken the previous owner thirteen years to obtain. At first, I had no intention of starting another winery- I already had V.Sattui. My plan was only to replant historic vineyards there. However, throughout my adult life, I had been fascinated with Italian medieval architecture; and, because of my passion- some would say obsession- I had already bought a handful of ancient properties in Italy, including a small castle near Florence (now sold), a medieval monastery near Siena (now being refurbished) and a Medici palace in southern Tuscany, which we are remodeling into a period hotel. You get the picture- it's an incurable malady. I was naive enough to think I was ready to begin. My plan was to incorporate all the ideas and details that I had assembled from my first trip to Italy in 1965 in my 8,500 square-foot winery. I would create a fantasy, a maze where every room and space opened into a new and different adventure as one traveled throughout the building. I would include all the elements of a true medieval castle- a moat and drawbridge, high walls and towers on a hillside, a great hall, courtyards and loggias, an apartment for the nobles, a big kitchen, an outdoor brick oven for baking bread, a church, a horse stables, secret passage ways and, of course, a prison and torture chamber.

Castello di Amorosa produces primarily Italian style wines while reflecting California's unique climate, soil and growing conditions. The majority of our red wine grapes are grown in the Napa Valley, while our white grapes are grown in the Carneros district of the Napa Valley or in the Anderson Valley in Mendocino County, as both of these cool areas are ideal for white wine grapes. Some grapes are also purchased from select growers. Castello di Amorosa is a Certified Napa Green winery, and our estate vineyards are in the heart of the Diamond Mountain District, a nested American Viticultural Area (AVA) within the Napa Valley. Located east of highway 29 and just 3 miles south of the city of Calistoga, our 30 acres of vineyards surrounding the Castello are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sangiovese and Primitivo.
