Château de Tiregand

Château de Tiregand is a historic estate located on the right bank of the Dordogne, upstream from Bergerac. Set on the heights of the hillside, this elegant 19th-century residence was once a seigneury and is now listed as an ISMH historic monument. Today, the château belongs to Louis Guyot and remains a significant agricultural, winegrowing, and forestry estate in Dordogne.

The vineyard extends across the slopes of Galinoux, Coutets, Château-Vieux, and Montalbanie, terroirs chosen for the quality of their soils. Located in the Pécharmant appellation, one of the oldest vineyards of the Bergerac area, Château de Tiregand benefits from south-facing hillsides, excellent sun exposure, and distinctive soils composed of sand, gravel, clay, and iron-rich subsoil.

The estate’s vineyard was historically renowned, particularly for its parcel known as “La Terrasse,” but was entirely destroyed by the severe frosts of 1956. It was later replanted by the Comtesse François de Saint-Exupéry with selected grape varieties adapted to the production of AOC wines. Today, the estate continues to combine tradition and precision viticulture, with low yields of around 45 hl/ha, allowing the character of the Pécharmant terroir to fully express itself.

Château de Tiregand is best known for its Pécharmant wines, produced from a balanced blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec. The vineyard is planted with approximately 54% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Malbec. Each grape variety contributes its own personality: Merlot brings intense fruit and roundness, Cabernet Franc adds finesse and bouquet, Cabernet Sauvignon provides body and structure, while Malbec offers notes of violet and sweet spices.

The resulting wines are generous, structured, and rich in tannins, with a deep color, elegant aromas, and great finesse. They can be enjoyed from their third year, but generally reach their full expression after 6 to 7 years of aging. As wines made for cellaring, they can also age beautifully for 10 to 15 years.

In addition to its red wines, Château de Tiregand also produces a dry Bergerac white wine from 1.65 hectares of white grape varieties, planted with 90% Sauvignon and 10% Sémillon. This elegant and aromatic white wine offers notes of lemon, almond, and white peach.
